  • Trump gives Apple a giant break with wide-ranging tariff exemptions

Like I have repeatedly stated on this site and others, . Apple would not be harmed by these tariffs.  It’s amazing how people still do not understand how Trump operates and what his intentions are even after him being president for 4+ years.   Many view him as incompetent or corrupt and greedy but he is just following his America First policies and truly is trying to put America in a better position.  Those suffering from TDS will never see this.
And did he? Did he put America in a better position?

The answer to that is "no," and that will become increasingly obvious as things made outside the US leap up in price, above and beyond the inflation he hasn't done anything about either.

He has shown the world that he is erratic, incompetent, and a liar. While I'm delighted that this reversal will benefit US tech companies, and while I support the idea of bringing more manufacturing back to the US where it is practical and possible to do so, this move is only a move back to the status quo under the previous administration.

The fact that Russia was specifically excluded from ANY of these tariff shenanigans should tell Americans who is really running the US these days. An uninhabited island ruled by penguins got slapped with tariffs, but not Russia.

    Draw your own conclusions, folks.

  • Apple's Home Hub pushed back to 2026 after delayed Siri improvements

I don't think you're wrong about that, Eightzero.

I and other people I happen to know have held off on investing much in "smart home" stuff until Apple unveils a system of its own to control devices from it and other brands ... and so far, a lot of smart home stuff has been HomeKit compatible, setting the stage for that home hub.

I just hope Apple will update the full-size HomePods to have more HomeKit smarts -- that's when I'll replace the OG ones that I use with my Apple TV for my current setup, which offers terrific stereo/Atmos sound.

Sure a 5.1 or 7.1 surround setup would undoubtedly be even better, but my apartment neighbours would probably complain every time I watched a war movie, so ... nope for now.

  • Apple may be able to delay price increases, but not for long

Actually this is a good opportunity for all the other countries that can improve trade relations directly between each other and shut out the US.
That is exactly what is going on. UK, Europe, Canada, Mexico, et al are doing a lot more trade talking.

This will still cause some pain for those countries because they still have to do business with the US (especially Canada and Mexico, but those two have dodged the general tariff increase so far thanks to NAFTA/CUSA), but the people who will be most hurt by this are ... American consumers.

It's gonna hurt, folks. A lot.

  • iPhone blamed for including journalist in highly classified bombing plans

don’t know…is it possible that the error occurred because he was using Signal instead of an actual approved platform…where shit like this wouldn’t happen? Just a thought!
That's the problem in a nutshell ... there apparently isn't an approved texting program for secure government communications. There's certainly a secure email system, and approved secure phone lines, but no texting platform for sensitive discussions -- hopefully this will inspire the administration to make one.

To be fair to Signal, the problem isn't the program. It's E2EE, so this is technically all that's needed. You just gotta have a way to better vet who is in on the chat.

  • BBC cries foul over lack of branding for its Apple News stories

I hope the BBC is happy when Apple declines to take the BBC's money for using its news stories.
That's ... not how this works. You have it exactly backwards -- Apple pays news sources to run their content in Apple News (and News+).
