  • Apple believes Spotify wants a free ride, and the EU may just give it to them

It’s worth noting that despite its huge majority share and subscriber base, Spotify has only recently started reporting (sometimes) profitable quarters. After some 18 years in business, and a decade as the streaming service leader.

It should also be mentioned that Spotify’s royalty rate is really, really low. Apple Music, by comparison, pays around 2.5x what Spotify pays, and that was before Apple’s recent carrot-dangling of even higher royalties if artists record or remaster in Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos.

Then throw in their absolute indignation at giving Apple $100/year in developer fees, which is the only money Apple apple earns from them. I happen to live in the same city as one of the execs of Spotify, and I’ll just say they live a billionaire lifestyle while their investors get little and their artists (inventory) gets even less.

So if you’re wondering where the bulk of the money goes, the answer is “not where it should.”

  • Apple and Meta's latest fight is over social media boosted post fees on iPhone

Meta doesn’t have to use IAP.
They do if people want to pay for a boost within the app. Them's the rules.

Meta's free to offer boosts on their own site, but through the FB app they have to pay Apple.

I notice that FB doesn't do the obvious thing and discount boosts by 30 percent lF they buy them from the FB site ... hmmmm ... seems like an obvious way to attract buyers to use the site rather than the app ... wonder why they don't do that?

  • FCC commissioner cries antitrust again after Beeper Mini debacle

You’ll undoubtedly be surprised — even flabbergasted, I dare say — to find out he’s a grandstanding Republican who doesn’t appear to understand even the basics of the technology he’s supposed to be helping to regulate.

    This is my shocked face.

  • Don't read too much into early Apple Vision Pro app sales

How about an insight article how to import it, what kind of things happen then? Am very interested in that
This was actually covered in this article:

The short version: if you, an individual, bought an Apple Vision Pro while you were in the US and you want to bring it back to your home country, that’s typically fine — just declare it when you re-enter (there may be a fee for for this).

If you’re trying to import quantities of the device for resale, forget about it, at least for now — you could be risking arrest and confiscation by the authorities, and possibly worse.

  • 'Foundation' cast and crew sent home as production delayed

It was the only show on Apple TV that I enjoyed,
You either have extremely narrow tastes (there are a half-dozen other Sci-Fi shows on TV+, fer cryin’ out loud), or you just haven’t looked at the service beyond your keyword search for “Foundation.”

EVERY show on AppleTV+ is pretty great, though some don’t speak to my interests. For example, I don’t really waste much time on sportsball, but the times I have sampled it I found the videography to be excellent, the commentators refreshingly interesting, and of course Lionel Messi is a phenom for a reason. Every show on this service is ridiculously gorgeous-looking and (IMO) thoughtfully cast, written, and realised.

I have an ever-lengthening list of shows that look like I’d like them (or I know I’d like them because I’ve sampled an episode or three) — for me it’s a question of finding the time to watch TV. If it wasn’t for Doctor Who (not on Apple TV+) and the classic films on Criterion, I could happily drop those services and just pay for Apple TV+.

I encourage you to expand your view a bit and try out a few more shows on TV+, I’ll bet you’ll find something you enjoy without much trouble.
