  • FineWoven won't be missed, but it should be remembered

As others have pointed out, there is such a thing as "vegan" leather (not produced using animals at all). The "production cost" to the environment is another factor to consider, and I'm not up enough on the difference between the process to make a genuine leather from leftover animal hide or a faux-leather made from plants to be sure that Apple couldn't have chosen the more sensible option to replace the former with the latter.

The whole issue is complicated, but one of the many reasons I choose Apple over some other companies is their strong commitment to minimize their footprint/environmental impact. So I'm glad to see that the company is trying to come up with solutions -- the FineWoven cases I've tried looked and felt pretty good to me, but as others have pointed out they are prone to markings and scuffs that actual leather is more resistant to, and don't age well if you're rough on your iPhones (the reason you probably bought a case in the first place).

Both of my current iPhone cases are made with a silicone-like biopolymer from Pela that can be recycled and are fully compostable, and have proven pretty hard to damage in normal use. I chose Pela because their manufacturing process is also more environmentally-friendly as well. There are several other companies that make eco-conscious iPhone cases, so if you want a case it's worth doing a quick search on environmentally-friendly iPhone case makers and pick one that aligns with your needs.

  • Apple offers all-time high $300 welcome bonus for new Apple Card signups

To answer the questions from people wanting the Apple card in their non-US countries: when Apple can find a financial partner willing to jump through the bureaucratic hoops to offer it in those countries. Apple's lack of fees probably really hurts it in this regard.

If you make money by making and selling apps, you're a trader (at least as pertains to App Stores).

If you are a trader, then the EU requirement is not just that Apple have your contact info, or the EU has your contact info, but that anyone can know your contact information.

  • New Macs in 2025 rumored to get at least one major design refresh

Please Apple, please, while you’re at it, redesign the god-awful Magic Mouse so that most of the users don’t have to throw it in the drawer at the day of purchase, replacing it with an actual usable mouse.
I've used one for years, not a problem. There's an Apple logo on the bottom so you are sure it is oriented properly, but after that the left and right buttons* work exactly as expected.

*assuming you have turned on the right-click option, which isn't on by default.

Possibly my hand positioning is a bit different than some; I use my right hand, and my index finger naturally rests where the left-click is, and my middle finger rests where the right-click would be. I use each finger for that purpose, and the two fingers at the same time for scrolling. It all seems to work fine for me.

If this doesn't sound wildly alien to you, have a look in the mouse settings for your Mac and possibly there's some options and adjustments there you may want to make to have it suit you better. I have turned off "swipe between pages" and "swipe between full-screen applications," personally, as I don't use them very much.

They will be last to receive any new benefits or pay enhancements Apple Retail unilaterally rolls out to all the stores

They will now need to transactionally ask and negotiate for every-single-thing

You should try reading the last paragraph of the article.

    Such an action is illegal.
