Apple's 'longevity by design' initiative is a balance between repairability & secure engin...

Apple is cynically creating prematurely obsolete e-waste with their design choices. How do you come to that conclusion? This article says, “The lifespan of the iPhone is also continuing to grow. Hundreds of millions of iPhones have been in use for more than five years, it claims.”
That doesn’t jibe with creating prematurely obsolete e-waste and actually sounds like the opposite.Anecdotally, at our house we have 2 original iPhones, 2 iPhone 4, and iPhone 5, a 7, an 8+, a 12 Pro and a 15. The 12 Pro and the 15 are the only ones in active use but ALL the others power up and work as expected, sans cellular service (I’m not even sure I could get service on the originals). My Android friend was amazed that the originals still work and was more amazed at how well pinch to zoom is one them (by his account Android phones didn’t have nice, fluid photo zooming for years “like they showed in advertising”.)
So, I don’t see where you get obsolete e-waste from with iPhones, unless you treat them horribly and cause them to break. -

Apple Intelligence & iPhone mirroring aren't coming to EU because of the DMA
CheeseFreeze said:Dear Apple, then why am I able to use ChatGPT 4o with all features just fine? You know, the one that isn’t as focused on privacy concern as yours?Sounds like you are posturing…
You also seem to cheer on that ChatGPT has weaker privacy concerns than Apple has as some sort of positive.
Did you post in the wrong thread?
I don’t see posturing. I see Apple trying to take a slow approach trying to figure out how to implement these features in the EU while avoiding the many hidden land mines the DMA has. -
