  • More USB-C speed won't fix users' problems with cables

If you can't tell what bandwidth you're getting from your USB cable/device, you probably don't need to know.
My iPad Pro uses a USB-C cable for charging. My wife’s M1 MacBook Air uses a USB-C cable for charging. The iPad cable doesn’t work for charging the Air (and maybe vice versa). I can’t tell by looking at them which one works with which device but we obviously need to know or at least one device won’t be charging when we think it is.

  • Apple's CSAM detection system may not be perfect, but it is inevitable

I won't use any system that scans any of my images – if Apple wants to do this they should do it in iCloud or I will stop using their devices.
Your phone already scans your images. That’s how part of the search function in Photos works, it scans your photos so when you search for “trees” or “water” or “dogs” or any of a few hundred (thousand?) other terms Photos can show you those images that contain the search terms.

  • Apple Watch Pro with iPhone 13 design cues rumored for Sept. event

Case in point: the Watch currently has a pulse oximeter sensor, but the readings are a total joke when compared against the medical grade oximeter I have at home. In fact, the oximeter reading I get from my Watch is usually low enough to warrant a trip to a hospital emergency room IF it were accurate... but it's not.
I’ve tested my watch against medical grade oximeters a few times. Only 1 time did I get a different reading and it was by 1 point. Maybe you have a watch with a bad sensor. It might be worth checking out, especially if you need one at home.

Hey! My friend is on T-Mobile, maybe this will finally give her acceptable coverage!

  • Rumor that Apple will launch a web search engine pops up again

Has Scoble ever been a reliable source of Apple info? I seem to remember him being an Apple basher, years ago. Not that I care about the bashing, just that that was all he did re: Apple and otherwise was a trumpet for all things MS.

Surprising that more folks aren’t talking about this in light of the recent revelation that DuckDuckGo is not nearly as “privacy focused” as it is purported to be, i.e., giving special treatment that allows Microsoft to slurp up your search data.

I thought it was the DDG browser allowing trackers from MS, but using DDG for search wasn’t sharing info and kept searches private. The MS deal being only related to the browser but not search.

    ETA: found this: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/duckduckgo-browser-allows-microsoft-trackers-due-to-search-agreement/

” However, Weinberg has made it clear that this restriction is only in their browser and does not affect the DuckDuckGo search engine.”

Also, the Apple web crawler is nothing new and sparked the “Apple web search is coming” rumors a long time ago, maybe 10 years or so. I wonder what makes Scoble think things are different this year.
