  • Apple again said to cut HomePod orders on poor sales performance

I did my part to support them.  I have an Alexa and a HomePod.  The HomePod and Alexa speakers aren’t even comparable.  HomePod blows Alexa away.  My next speaker with be Apple as well.

  • Apple says male UK staff earn average of 5 percent more than women

When male doesn’t mean male, female doesn’t mean female, and gender is whatever a person feels like it is, how do you define a gender pay gap?  Maybe the company will just have some of the highest paid executives start “identifying” as the opposite sex to balance the gap.

  • How to trigger Siri on your iPhone instead of HomePod

Did anyone figure out how to change the "personal requests" after the initial setup it says you can change these setting after the initial set up but I have not been able to find it.

BTW, the question we asked about the Olympics was where are the Olympics, and the homepod came back and and said where it was and when it started and ended.
To change the Personal Requests setting:

    1. Open the home app
    2. Click the location arrowhead in the upper-left of the Favorites screen
    3. About halfway down under “People”, click your profile (assuming you want to make the changes for you)
    4. Scroll down to the Personal Requests option to toggle it on or off.

There are only about three options on that screen.  To get at many more options for HomePod, do the following.

    1. Open the Home app
    2. On the Favorites screen (or on the room screen where you have the HomePod set up), click “Edit” near the upper-right of the screen.
    3. Click the icon for your HomePod
    4. Play with the options

  • Glucose sensor app said to be first third-party title to access Apple iPhone's NFC

This warning from the manufacturer’s site makes me wonder if this isn’t just a novelty.  After all, the entire point of checking finger-stick blood glucose levels is to get real-time results so that insulin can be dosed, or for a glucose log so that your doctor can adjust your oral medications.
WARNINGS/LIMITATIONS: The FreeStyle Libre Pro System does not provide real-time results and patients should adhere to their blood glucose monitoring routine while using the system.

    https://www.myfreestyle.com/provider/?source=www.freestylelibre.us

I suppose that if the glucose values recorded are not real-time, but are accurate, they may be sufficient for someone that is not taking insulin, but even so, the manufacturer says to continue the finger-sticks while using this system.

    And...

The FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring system is a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device indicated for replacing blood glucose testing and detecting trends and tracking patterns aiding in the detection of episodes of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia,
Note the “aiding in the detection of ... hypoglycemia”.  Now another quote.

IMPORTANT: The device may inaccurately indicate hypoglycemia. The results of the clinical study conducted for this device showed that 40% of the time when the device indicated that user sensor glucose values were at or below 60 mg/dL, user glucose values were actually in the range of 81-160 mg/dL.

Inaccurate 40% of the time!  That’s almost as bad as flipping a coin (50%), so it cant be trusted for hypoglycemia monitoring.  Hopefully the hyperglycemia monitoring is more accurate.

So in summary, you can use this device, but you still have to do the finger-sticks, and the device may be inaccurate.  Sounds like they have a long ways to go.

  • AT&T workforce stricken with over 2000 layoffs U.S-wide days after $1000 tax reform bonus ...

Why Americans allow CEO's to fire workers willy-nilly to make their short-term bottom line look better is beyond me.

Yep, lay them off and put them on the dole. Great.

In Germany, for example, BMW is not allowed to layoff and send them to the unemployment line for the government to pay. First, they have to go on 3/4 time, then half time, then 1/4 time and into a retraining program. Now that's how a responsible company should operate.

Case in point, Germany was the last country to go into the Great Recession of 2008 and the first to come out!

    Oh well.

    Three things:

    1. Great Resession?
    2. AT&T sucks
    3. I am apparently a “tax avoider” as I only pay what I owe.  I use an reputable accountant to be certain.
