Who will deliver useful AI to the masses?
AI is, of course, not that at all. It is just a very costly, in terms of the finance and the environment, way of bigging up a higher level of data processing. It adds hugely annoying pop-ups, drop downs and utterly pointless interruptions. I am perfectly capable of doing my job without messages telling me I am not replying to the last email or that I haven’t followed something up. I also don’t need suggestions on how to organise my life: I can do that far more quickly than wasting my time creating countless lists with pretty colours of what I need to do. I can save myself a lot of time, just doing it.

'F1' could be the last Apple TV+ theatrical release
I think it is a real shame that cinema as it used to be has died out. Our local cinema had one huge screen probably at least 100 feet (30 metres) across, in a very large space. We had a 19-inch (0.5 metre) tv. Now we have multiplexes with lots of small screens (some probably not more than 20 feet (6 metres) and a 50-inch (1.5 metres) tv.Consequently, going to the cinema to see a big screen film was exactly that and a great experience. We can now see a film on something at home not much smaller than at the cinema.
Big screen films should be seen on big screens, the bigger the better, such as the IMAX format.
The basic problem again is quantity not quality: we don’t need 10 new films every week, we need far fewer big blockbuster films. -

iOS 18 review: expansive customization with a pinch of AI
It is too early to have used much of iPad OS 18, but it does look great!
AI, whether Apple’s version or anyone else’s, is just the next level of data crunching. It is certainly not artificial or any other sort of intelligence. It’s a great sales gimmick, though. We can expect billions to be wasted on the new greatest thing, which will, to a large extent, be used for negative purposes.
