  • Too soon? Apple's new iPhone 7 ruffles feathers with Lightning audio, Home button changes

You didn't mention charging while listening. That's the biggest drawback to using Lightning headphones. Or wireless ones which need to be charged. You give up the functionality of listening on long trips, in a car, plane, train, etc. That's a step back.  At least without third party dongles. Apple should have introduced wireless charging first, so you could listen while staying charged.
I agree. This is my only concern re: lightning headphones. I currently use my earpods and only my earpods on my iPhone6 (yes, I'm not an audiophile though I have sensitive enough hearing on a quiet night to hear tungsten step-down energy states on a cooling incandescent - actually I "see" it if I close my eyes). However, I also listen while driving using my headphones (I have a 12 year old car, and it won't die any time soon) - and I often have a low charge when I get in the car. I fear I'm going to start hating my drive if it forces me to choose between charging vs. listening. I tried BT headphones, they were really cool, but I kept getting neck aches and headaches, so I stopped. Apple, for gawdsakes, PLEASE fix this. The belkin "solution" is not at all elegant and it's frustrating I have to shell out another $40.
Would you consider replacing the stereo in your car? You can get a new stereo that supports direct USB connection from Android and iOS devices for less than $100. Crutchfield does a great job of making stereo replacement easy. I replaced mine back in 2011 and it's served me all these 5 years even through the dock connector / lightning transition. It's much more convenient to connect and you get direct audio connection with power at the same time. You can easily use the volume and previous/next track controls through the head unit which is much easier and safer when driving. Other small things make it more convenient, such as starting your music automatically when you plug in the phone.

I haven't had to use the headphone jack/lightning combination in years in any car. Even all my car rentals have had USB ports that support iOS direct connections.

  • Apple's 'iPhone 7' to boast True Tone display, upgraded camera flash, capacities of 32-256...

Except the Moto Z doesn't have a headphone jack either.

Then you're not the market. Why would you want a thicker battery? What purpose does that serve? By eliminating the century old headphone jack, they've already increased the battery capacity without making the phone thicker.
I want a bigger battery for longer battery life.  I spend a lot of time outdoors away from electricity.  I sometimes listen to music on my phone for several hours per day which means bluetooth airbud type headphones would need to be charged nightly.  Hey, I don't mind charging my phone nightly.  But last thing I want to do is to have to charge my watch or headphones nightly as well.  And since I spend so much time outdoors, having to keep track of a lighting to ear phone adapter just doesn't work for me.  And I seriously doubt there will be any $20 or $25 lightening cable ear buds available for Iphone 7s.

So, give me an Android phone, with a bigger battery, and a headphone jack, and a Micro SD card for several hundred dollars less any day.  Such as the new Moto Z ($408) or the soon to be announced Google 5" phone similarly priced.

I don't understand why Iphone folks have to hate on Android folks nor why Android folks have to hate on Iphone folks.  Both folks use the same apps and for the most part they function the same!!!!  There is room for both.  And I can appreciate both.  I concur that IOS is a smoother operating environment.  But I am fairly tech savvy, and I can deal with the quirks of Android for the $$$ differential.  As could most of the followers of Apple blogs!!!!
