  • Apple pushes FCC to keep 'super-high' spectrum free for 5G & other future tech

I had really crappy service at my home using AT&T, 1-2 bars max, couldn't even talk while inside my house, had to go outside. I decided to switch to Verizon since they assured me that their network coverage was vastly superior. Turns out it is the same crappy connection. Mind you I'm in the center of LA county, one of the largest cities in the world. I wish these providers would invest more on putting up towers. 5G will mean nothing to me if I can't get a signal.

  • How to use your iPhone to create your own passes and ditch your wallet

A bunch of Wells Fargo ATMs take Apple Pay now. Bank of America promised it last year, but I don't know for sure how far along they are.
My BoA banks in LA all have Apple Pay.

The article mentions that in a big city 90% of establishments accept Apple Pay, but I live in Los Angeles, you may have heard of it and in my experience it is probably less than 5% accept Apple Pay payments.

I could get pretty close ditching my wallet but still need my medical insurance card and drivers license and at least one credit card. I do travel internationally so can't really depend on a contactless ATMs.

  • How to use an unsupported NAS or a spare Mac on your network as storage for Time Machine b...

It is actually sad that you guys have to write this kind of article. – That Apple no longer can offer their customers a good hardware solution supporting their own backup system. Do they even make a recommendation for how to store Time Machine backups any more?
Time Machine works perfectly by simply attaching an external drive to your Mac.

There are a 100 articles on the Apple website regarding Time Machine.

Neither of those choices are very appealing. Currently Airport Extreme can provide internet access and also do Time Machine backups at the same time. Having to attach a dongle and an ethernet cable to your MBP is a nuisance. Best to go with one of the new wifi routers that have USB 3.0 ports and attach your storage there.

On AirPort it also switches automatically.
Its doesn't really have anything to do with the routers. The mobile device itself is controlling the connection. Normally the device will stay connected to the same wifi signal as long as it is still functioning. There is no way for an iPhone to really determine which signal is actually stronger or switch automatically. I believe there are apps that assist with that but you really don't want the device constantly searching for signals because it will disrupt the performance. Best to have separate SSIDs and switch manually as necessary.
