I had a Tile … never needed it, gave me spurious alerts about forgetting my wallet, a year later prompted me to buy a new one because of the irreplaceable battery.  Got rid of my Tile.

First, until Department of Homeland Security updates REAL ID regulations (neither a simple nor fast process), this really doesn’t matter.

US citizens cannot board a plane unless they show REAL ID-compliant identification, and the current statues say nothing about digital identification.

Second, once DHS does its thing, each State will need to wire up their DMVs (et al) to do adopt the standard. This, too, will not be a fast process.

Nationwide, interoperable digital ID is at least a half decade away. Welcome to bureaucracy.

There’s apparently an ISO spec in draft that involves OpenID Connect so that the person presenting an ID can choose which bits of information to share. For cases where the internet isn’t available, it’ll use Bluetooth/WiFi (think AirDrop) for sharing info.

 The bitch, in the US, is still how each State gets to set its own Drivers License policy, so it’ll take many years for everyone to be able to use this, even after it’s released.

I’ve used this thing and it’s amazingly underwhelming ... account for the price, and it becomes basically a bad joke.

That's easy to say while looking at a tutorial.

I figured it out without this tutorial ... it literally says, “View your card number” — not exactly rocket science.
