  • Apple working on re-engineered and smaller Mac Pro

What I want is a mid-tower mac with a desktop grade processor and a decent video card.

16GB RAM in slots, Core i7 or maybe even i9, some RX 6000 series GPU, NVME slot, and a price tag around $2,000

I don't want a Xeon with 64 cores, I just want a mid to high end consumer mac that can actually hold a candle to the PCs in that price range.

  • Congressman says antitrust hearing confirmed Apple's 'deeply disturbing' behavior

    JFC_PA said:
Apple’s market share is in the low teens for smartphones. “Monopoly”? Hardly.
In the US where this investigation is taking place Apple has over 50% in both phone and tablet, so yes...

The numbers for vendor market share are also majority Apple

  • Nobody will win the Apple versus Epic Fortnite battle, not even consumers

How would consumers not win? Say Epic wins and they get the fee reduced, the ability for direct payments, or more hopefully, we get full sideloading on iOS. For the first situation we could get cheaper apps, as developers could reduce the price of the apps themselves or the price of In App Purchases, something good for the consumer. For the second we got proof that it would be better for the consumer, as the price of V-Bucks was cheaper with the option for directly purchasing the V-Bucks from Epic rather than through Apple's processor. For the third consumers wouldn't be beholden to the App Store. Stadia and Xcloud would be usable on iOS, Much more open source development could occur on iOS because developers wouldn't have to subscribe to a $100 fee to host their apps on the store. Hell, with sideloading we could get app stores that actually show off more than regurgitate the top apps of each category.
Sideloading isn’t a win for consumers, it introduces significant security risks.

I suppose macOS is a security risk then?

  • Please don't wish for a 'free' App Store

This is why iOS needs a "Pro Mode". Users who want a safe app environment can stick with the Apple moderated App Store while users who do not want any restrictions can switch to pro mode and install any app store they want free of Apple's SDK restrictions. Pro mode users would be responsible for their own security and should expect malware, apps that drain the battery in the back ground and so on (just like on laptop and desktop computers). They would also be able to install anti-malware apps as well as the professional tools they need to get work done. Personally, I would stick with the safe mode on my main iPhone and use pro mode on older devices and my iPad.
But apps would still be subject to the same sandbox as ones from the App Store, they would still need to be code-signed.

If Apple ever allowed apps from outside the App Store on iOS, they would most certainly go with the notarization model that they have for macOS as a requirement along with enforcing the sandbox

  • Apple's 'PhoenixCE' diagnostic software left on customer MacBook Pro

It'd be a shame if something like that were to end up in Louis Rossmann's posession, absolutely terrible I might add... And just so no one accidentally visits it, I'm going to share his website address https://rossmanngroup.com
