  • EU is reportedly going to fine Apple over failure to comply with the Digital Markets Act

This seems to be a never-ending story. Europe is not worth it. Apple should just leave the market altogether.

Considering that the United States is looking at similar regulation, maybe Apple should just leave that market, as well? And Japan? And Australia?

Hell, maybe Apple should just close up shop.

The EU is a truly shocking organisation. I’m a Brit and happy to be independent from such a far reaching state. They haven’t got a clue how big tech and security works.
Which is an amusing standpoint, because a rather large portion of EU legislation was actually written by the Brits, before a handful of millionaires decided they no longer wanted to comply with upcoming tax haven regulation and started a campaign to get out.

How are those trade deals coming along, BTW?

  • Japan could be next to force third-party app stores on Apple

So… lots of countries/regions all coming to the same conclusion about Apple's App Store.

    The opinionati on AppleInsider:

    a) EU investigates: Protectionism to cover the fact that they are technologically incompetent! Corruption!

    b) US DOJ investigates: Political activism!

    c) Japan investigates: Revenge for "sliding down" in the tech industry

    d) Korea investigates: Corrupt protectionism (also, as seen here: Revenge for "sliding down" in the tech industry — except Samsung is constantly one of the top 2 smartphone manufacturers globally)

I look forward to many more creative explanations that blame anything but Apple.

  • Apple wants all of TSMC's 2nm chips, so they sent Jeff Williams in secret

Apple has the money and more importantly has their designs ready to go now why shouldn't Apple buy as many slots as they can? Note: Intel in recent times reserved a lot of time and had to cancel because they didn't have their sh_t together as usual. (also note: with Intel's history they probably were actually playing games with their competition).

That's been well-documented. That is the N3B process that TSMC used in the M3. It was intended as a stop-gap with some life in it while they got the long-term N3E line going that simplified and optimised things for 3nm production.

Unfortunately, while it was somewhat intended to be a dead end, it also turned out to be much more complex and expensive than anticipated, so yield was much lower and power savings vs. horsepower were less than expected. Apple is literally the only customer for the process.

Which is why the M3 Ultra never materialised (though this was probably decided before any M3 Macs shipped) and the iPad skipped the generation entirely and went straight to M4, which is on N3E.

N3E will also be directly adaptable to follow-up generations, while N3B —> N3E needs a complete reëngineering for the new tech and tooling.

They are paid accordingly. They also get benefits as well. This is not professional position...it's retail. And trust me, if someone leaves tomorrow there WILL be someone waiting to come in. Again, this isn't corporate Apple, this is retail where they won't have an issue replacing someone.
In Europe the Apple employees do unionize and get 5-6 weeks of paid vacation.
I don't know about the rest of Europe, but in Germany, 24 days of paid vacation (in addition to bank holidays and Sundays) are a legal requirement, regardless of union involvement. (I mean, unions obviously had a part in making this law at one point.)

Anybody is free to join and support a trade union, regardless, and setting up a shop council for individual stores or companies is a legal right (though companies do occasionally try to thwart attempts at forming one, they rarely succeed). It is illegal to punish or fire employees for trying.
