Tim Cook: 2020 was 'Apple's top year of innovation ever'
aknabi said:A breakthrough year in innovation? Sure... due to the M1 which will redefine the performance/power curve for computing and align with phones.
Ever? Well that's part of the hyperbolic, BS driven we live in today... younger folks haven't seen truly amazing breakthroughs (e.g. the Moon Landing) so a TikTok music remix becomes the innovation standard...
But compared to say Apple's 1984... not even close... Tim, given where Apple is and is going there's no reason for you to be serving the BS lasagna... it's not a good look -

'Apple Car' project loses original project manager Benjamin Lyon
I always wonder how these types of departures turn out for the previous company? That Apple employee knows a ton about the Apple Car. And while I am sure he must have signed a non-disclosure agreement with Apple when he joined, he could always unofficially talk about it to its new employer. In fact, I have a strong feeling that the startup hired him not just because of his experience and skills, but also about what he knows about the project. You could always say that Apple must have filed parents to protect its IP, but then everything is not about patents. Ideas are equally important. Even if he tells the new employer what Apple is planning to do exactly, that could be a a real gem of information for that startup, since they could start building a similar stuff in their car. Thus impacting the uniqueness of Apple Car. -
First Apple Silicon M1 malware discovered in the wild
I am not a processor expert, but this post seems a bit misleading. The security flaw is not on a hardware level like in the case of Spectre (which affected x86 processors). This seems more like an OS level bug. It's just that the malware has been recompiled to run nativity on the M1, just like so many other apps. -
VW chief 'not afraid' of 'Apple Car' entering the market
MassiveAttack said:dk49 said:MassiveAttack said:oberpongo said:These statements from VW CEO are very similar to what the CEOs of Nokia, Blackberry and Microsoft said about the iPhone when it was unveiled in 2007. time will tell if VW will be as forgotten as Nokia and Blackberry.
Just imagine, VW could bring out an OS system, which work for VW, Audi, Skoda and other subsidiaries like Apple is doing with iPhone, iPad, Mac, watch etc.
This network effect will bring VW to the No. 1.
If you sell your VW and buy Audi, your data still exists and you do not have to start from zero because their OS system work for all subsidiaries.
In this case, Apple must speed up to make a common agreement with any other OEMs or Magna.
Apple has no time and time is ticking.
The automotive area is the most conservative sector, where you will never see another Foxconn.
Apple will have a difficulty to finde one car maker, who is willing to make cars for Apple. I highly doubt it.
However, the strategy of OEMs would be to reject Apple as long as Apple gives up.
If they are not willing to make Apple cars, Apple would be out of the competition by assuming that Apple will not buy an OEM.
As I said, time is running and ticking at the moment. The time is against Apple.
I currently work in the automotive area and I cannot imagine that Apple will find one OEM, which is willing to make cars for Apple.
The automotive market is a completely different animal and there will be no next Foxconn.
I am excited to get some "official" news in the future how Apple would handle this challenge.
