Excellent point!  And sorely ignored in this debate.  Note how many "tax apologists" come out of the woodwork in discussions like these, without ever considering the morality of taxes themselves.  Governments, of course, assume they are.

Correction: Europe has had the longest stretch of peace in its history since 1945 (over 70 years), thanks to the United States of America.  We occupied after WW2 and it's been at peace (not counting terrorism) ever since.

Intel still must be smarting over the decision to turn down Apple's offer to build A series chips for them a decade ago.

Note that the "surpassing" was in revenue, not in unit sales.  Traditional wired headphones still outsell BT headphones by a very wide margin.

I don't think it supports or hurts Apple's case for removing the headphone jack from the iPhone.

Why all this?

We hate having to carry around frigging adapters everywhere we go.

Keep in mind: one of the main advantages of USB-C, among many, is to eliminate the need for adapters completely.  Obviously we'll need adapters for legacy USB-A for a while, but once USB-C is universal, like USB-A is now, we'll literally have one port that accommodates multiple functions.  I don't buy into new tech for the sake of new tech, but USB-C does bring a lot of advantages that I think will be worth the cost of changing to it.
