  • Judge calls for settlement hearing in patent case involving ex-Apple engineer

"Eastman also alleges wrongful termination over attempts convince a manager to fix a Disk Utility flaw prior to the release of OS X Yosemite. The company categorized the engineer's communication as unprofessional and inappropriate."

Is this potentially also an important a story, perhaps around what may have been culture change at Apple and a macOS release based on calendar (operations) vs merit (design) after 2011...?

Ah I remember. Disk Utility has become a piece of shit in yosemite. It almost never works and has greyed out buttons and fields and silly options that sometimes work but then really don't, but well it's pretty. Like straight out of the book of Dieter Rams /s.

Not a tool I would entrust a hard disk full of data to.

Before yosemite I could simply use Disk Utility, now I am forced to use fdisk and some other command line tools.

Apple really doesn't want you to touch anything, do they. Just like with everything else that made OS X useful for me as a developer.

  • France shames Apple for not sacrificing user privacy for COVID-19 app

Shame on France for attacking the freedoms of people and using Covid as an excuse. There is no reason to trust governments or companies to protect our freedom. They have all proven time and time again they cant be trusted.
What is freedom, and why is everyone supposed to be entitled to the humanist version of freedom? Not arguing for France though as I personally support privacy too. Just wondering about the thought and its implications.

  • Apple Watch Series 6 may add anxiety monitoring and sleep tracking

Could this be required for all gun owners...? BAC for drivers to start their cars...?
Ban guns, all problems solved. Guns serve no purpose in public places.

  • Valve abandons the macOS version of SteamVR

The reality: Steam can’t sell these things even to the larger installed Windows base. They need to cut costs because they are bleeding money. As I’ve said in past posts, no one wants these big bulky headsets! On a related topic - Apple NEEDS to embrace and natively SUPPORT Vulkan on MacOS and iOS. It can co-exist with METAL and will give developers another option for app development.
Lol no. Apple Management I believe or how it looks to me is rotten enough to appropriate the arrogance that has lead intel to fail like they are right now, of course financially not but the technology. At least the general purpose computing part of Apple.

  • Apple Car research focusing on use of Tesla-style induction motor

It would be interesting to see a low voltage squirrel cage induction motor being used with ultra low inductance, they are very recent and have exceedingly high efficiency with GaN semiconductors. It just requires FPGA based control due to the high switching / control loop frequency.

Classical high voltage systems are boring and easy to implement <.<
