I gotta say I am really not interested in FaceTime.

Personally I find Video Calls in the same fad league as 3D TV. I find voice calls perfectly adequate.
Nothing more egocentric than someone entering a discussion to inform everyone how uninterested one is in the topic.
    Lol true

I only make the remark because Apple made (what I would consider) this quite niche feature such a prominent part of their presentation

maybe people love video calling?? I don’t know. Just no one I know does.
So you have no family or friends not living next door you have an interest in talking to?

So, you like driving 5 hours to a conference, staying 5 nights, spending $1000 on the hotel plus the conference fees and driving back vs dialing in from home?

  • Apple channels Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' to sell iPad-based freedom

Those webcams on top of the monitors are such a Windows thing.

People think Apple is holding back features on iPadOS because they don’t wanna canibalize Mac sales but this ad and the slogan disprove that.
Apple is certainly moving in the direction of merging the two lines — at least for many tasks. Apple Silicon, Sidecar, keyboards for iPads, Universal Control are evolutionary steps towards merger.

  • Apple adds Windows Precision Touchpad to Boot Camp, eight years late

Any chance this could be a signal that they’re continuing work on BootCamp and that it MIGHT be enabled on M1 Macs somehow? :|  I don’t know; I’m just reaching on this one. Perhaps they (Apple) found a way to run a HAL or something on top of M1/M2 hardware where (Intel) Windows can run on top of? *shrug* Just wishful thinking here lol
While Apple could choose not to offer Bootcamp for M1 Macs, I don't see that as something they'd shy away from as the cost of development is likely minuscule compared to the overall benefit. The core issue is Microsoft not offering a license for Windows ARM. MS will offer this when PC makers are wanting to push more ARM-based PCs to the market to better compete with Apple on performance per watt. There's too much at stake for MS not to make this happen for their vendors.
Agree 100%. It may take a few years, but I would be shocked if we never saw Windows on ARM.
Microsoft is waiting for Apple to build a functional ARM PC so they have a platform to run Windows on.

  • Fastly CDN problem caused wide website outages worldwide [u]

Where's the system redundancy? It doesn't seem to take much to take down large swathes of critical infrastructure -- or what we deem to be critical infrastructure.

  • Swift Playgrounds for iPadOS 15 lets users code & submit apps to App Store

Great idea. It may not be the ideal developmental foundation, but the ability to create useful apps while still learning coding principles via the Playground show real promise.

My guess is most such apps will not be generally useful but the creation of private apps that can be shared for a particular business or group is a great step.

As it is, businesses always have a lot of little specialized utilities staff writes for use in the business. Most of us have written 100's of them.
