  • Apple Silicon switch could lead to lower-cost Mac lineups, analyst says

Apple's expenses are huge. I see no reason Apple can or should lower prices.

The cost of creating a wholly new hardware system is exorbitant. The cost of the transition is exorbitant. The cost of enhancing and supporting two different platforms is exorbitant.

There must be roadmap to more features down the line is exorbitant -- and trying not to leave too far behind Intel platforms with its millions of users.

Licensing fees and manufacturing costs mentioned elsewhere are just rounding errors.

  • How Apple Silicon Macs can supercharge computing in the 2020s

This article paints a too rosy picture of the transition. The fact of the matter is that moving away from x86 will end Mac’s “best of both worlds” status. That means no more running Windows software.
As mentioned, MS has developed Windows to run on ARM. It has not been successful on the hardware side, but the fact that Windows does exist on ARM will mean MS will have a platform in Apple on to which ARM Windows will successfully run.

It's a win-win for both MS and Apple, Windows and MacOS, Windows developers and MacOS/iOS/iPadOS developers, Windows and Apple users.

    The only loser is Intel.

  • iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 mini support mmWave 5G, but only in US [u]

    Apple certainly pushed the 5G.

Is there an effort to limit the far faster Wi-Fi? Why would any consumer want to pay the exorbitant cellular data rates?

  • Apple's automotive ambitions extend far beyond self-driving systems

Schematics and many proposals does not make a future car...for myself I do not believe that Apple will go into the bar business, maybe buying a car company yes...but doing what Tesla has done, no way. This my own personal opinion.
Apple has a time limit on those patents. If they fail to act in a timely manner, they’ve wasted (possibly) hundreds of millions of dollars on an R&D effort with no payoff. Honestly, I’d like to see them jump into the transportation sector with an “all or nothing” approach. I think it might even be a good idea if they have to spin off a company/division 100% focused on Apple Transport. When Apple does something without substantial commitment they tend to lose interest quickly. A new company would have to fight for its own survival, even if it’s just a separate division of Apple, with its own management team.
They have a time limit but no one else can use these patents in their own vehicles without licensing from Apple. Patents by law create a time-limited monopoly. So these patents definitely have monetary value to Apple even if they themselves don't build a car.
