  • Amazon's Eero 6 router lineup gets HomeKit support

I used to have an AirPort Extreme N simultaneous duel band and an Express N simultaneous duel band as an extender. When we ended up getting a new home theater system at the house, the wi-fi wasn't strong enough, so it was time to finally upgrade. I ended up going with a Linksys Wi-Fi 6 Velop mesh system for a few reasons, one being that it has 4 Ethernet ports on the back that are useable even on the satellite devices. That way we were able to hook up the Playstation and AppleTV to the router for better coverage. I'd just like to see a few software updates from them. Mainly, it has a USB 3 port for an external hard drive. Well, it only supports FAT and NTFS, which limits the usability to work with an Apple setup with large video files, which kinda negates the reason I bought a 12TB external HDD. (FAT doesn't work with hard drives that large, and also doesn't work with files over 4GB, so huge video files are a no-go. There are NTFS plugins available for the Mac, but it won't work with the AppleTV.) So, I need either exFAT or APFS support for the larger HDD and large video files. It also doesn't support HomeKit yet, while other, older Linksys routers do, which makes no sense to me. So, arg.... If Apple introduced a new AirPort, with Wi-Fi 6 and good mesh support, I would really take a good hard look at that. But, #FirstWorldProblems

  • Initial iFixit teardown of M1 iMac reveals big changes, tiny parts

What happens to iMac if the power cable is accidentally pulled out? Does the battery provide enough backup to instantly power down safely without losing data?
Why would it be different than the current Intel iMac's?

  • Google Assistant research could make queries more conversational

I just wish that Apple was more like Google and Amazon in trying to improve all of their voice assistants. I get trying to maintain privacy, but there has to be a middle ground that would still allow Apple to improve its backend models. The thing I like about Google search is that it remembers what I've done in the past. It knows where I've gone via google maps, and which restaurants I like to go to, so it gives me heads up on new restaurants that are opening that I might like. It knows what websites I've bought stuff from, so it knows new things to recommend to me. If Apple was willing to use the data it had about its users in this way, do you have any idea how much more useful their products would be? And to babe able to have a more natural conversation with Siri? I mean, there's a reason I don't remember the last time I even wanted to use Siri for anything more than "set a timer" or "when's sunset?" Siri could be SO much better

How are they releasing stuff that doesn’t work with such wide beta testing and relatively few different devices/configurations (compared say with Android)?
Is not allowing Apps to track users by default really “not working”?
It's not working as advertised, so yes.

  • Apple may have one last Intel Mac up its sleeve

I really do hope that they do have one more Intel versions of all the computers (at least the 16" MacBook, iMac, and MacPro), because I still do use Windows on my 15" MBP, and I'm not willing to give up duel boot yet, at least not until we can use the ARM version of Windows. At least with the Mac Pro, something I could see them doing would be maybe including an Intel chip, AND an Apple Silicon chip, so that pros can run both Intel and ARM apps at the same time with no performance hit. But, that's probably just a pipe dream. I know that I'm not willing to give up my intel Mac yet, not until the ARM chips have a few more generations under their belt. And my 2017 model is not going to last forever. But, it will probably still last a while. My 2009 MBP lasted until 2017, so that was a really good run.
