  • New photos of alleged Lightning EarPods for Apple's 'iPhone 7' match recent leak

Does anyone know if Apple or anyone else makes a Lightning-to-Parallel Port adapter? I have an old OKIdata dot-matrix printer that I'd really like to use with my iPad. It's sad that Apple has ignored parallel port-using customers in its desire to move forward and advance the state of the art.

    /sarcasm

This is where I insert the Henry Ford "a faster horse" quote.

I love how the people who will have no problem dropping $700 on a brand-new iPhone are already groaning about not being able to use the headphones that shipped with their 1983 Walkman. Cry me a river.
My 2015 $300 Bose noise cancelling headset didn't ship with my 1983 Walkman, but you expect me to just throw that away so I can have an iPhone that is 1mm thinner.  That makes sense only in the mind of an Apple fanboy.  There's a reason why that jack has been around for so long...because it works and it works well.

This is where I insert the quote "if it isn't broke, don't fix it".
Sorry to say this, but technology doesn't care how much your headphones cost or when you bought them. The 3.5 mm jack may work well, but it does have and end of life just like everything else. Those headphones could be a lot lighter if used with a lighting jack because then the iPhone or iPad could then power the noise cancelling effect instead of having to use bulky and heavy batteries.

One rumor I heard is that the Lightning EarPods could even have noise canceling due to the Lightning jack. Our iPhones already have noise cancelling technology, but due to the dated headphone jack, the EarPods aren't able use the microphone in a way that would be able to do the same thing. So yeah, the headphone jack actually is broke. I'd love to have noise cancelling with any headphones I use.

  • Apple, 67 other businesses file against North Carolina's HB2 'bathroom' law

As long as you look like a man/women then I have no problem with you using whatever bathroom is most aligned with what you look like as long as you shut up, do your business, and get out without making a big deal about it.

This wasn't a big deal before so I don't know why it is now. I guess Obama and Clinton had to drum up some other non-issue to get voters all riled up and go against conservatives.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook calls for racial equality in light of US shooting deaths

First of all, I condemn shooting and killing police officers. Chances are high it will be the "wrong" officers anyway.

But as someone not living in the US, in a country with strict gun controls and a tiny portion of US gun deaths, I really wonder:

Gun proponents often quote the Second Amendment and somehow it always ends with the right to defend against an evil government, hence the need for assault rifles and other military grade weapons.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Obviously, this is not about guns for rabbit hunts (neither was it about killing children and random innocent citizens though). It seems that someone (or multiple persons) are taking the Second Amendment into real actions, not just a theoretical right.

I'm interested to learn how the NRA and their puppets are going to spin-doctor this.

Not exactly sure what you're talking about. This was an act of terror, not someone defending themselves from a tyrannical government. You are really no better than the shooter in that you're condemning a whole group of people based on the action of a few, just like the shooter condemned the whole of police based on the actions of a few.

  • Apple's 'iPhone 7' again rumored to feature 'Force Touch ID' home button

Moving to Lightning-only isn't just for better sound, although the vast majority of bloggers tend to focus on this specific point. Think on-ear biometrics.

"Apple’s U.S. Patent No. 8,655,004: “Sports monitoring system for headphones, earbuds and/or headsets.”"

With wearables about to become a major category in the Apple ecosystem, this is bigger than just improved sound.

It is still a bad argument as that is possible NOW with the Lightning connector on the phone already. Removing the jack just limits the option of older 3.5mm it doesn't add a lightning port that isn't already there to do what you say.
I've seriously had enough of you people clinging on to the headphone jack for dear life. If you want to feel nostalgic then why don't you go back to using floppy disks and driving cars without power steering for god's sake. One less port means better waterproofing, more sturdy, and more space for other components. The Lightning port provides the same function of not better in that the sound quality is better and devices are able to be powered by it. Think noise cancelling phones, instead of being powered by batteries, they can be lighter and powered by an iPhone or iPad. There's also an incentive from a sales aspect in that people will want to buy new headphones with the Lightning adapter instead of keeping their old ones, or maybe they'll make a jump to Bluetooth.

The headphone jack IS going way eventually, either this year or sometime in the future. Freaking deal with it already.

  • Inside iOS 10: New 'Bedtime' feature helps you get a proper night's sleep

    linkman said:
Apple's solution for sleep tracking is incomplete. Their device for full sleep tracking is the Apple Watch. But with the current model at around 18 hours you are left with the problem of when to charge it. Charge it during waking hours and you will miss out on its usefulness as notification/quick replier/step tracker/heart rate tracker or charge it during sleep and miss out on complete sleep monitoring.
Everything has pros and cons. A solution would be to buy a second Apple Watch since you can pair more than one now. This addition to iOS10 is a good compromise though.

By the way, are they ever to going to add the ability to freaking adjust snooze intervals? So basic and yet it has been missing since the beginning of the iPhone!
