  • YouTuber reveals 'iPhone 11' models, claims few changes

They are pushed to the side of the phone to make room for the battery in the center and right-side.
They could still center the camera module with Apple's L-shaped battery because the part of the battery that covers the center of the phone is in the bottom portion of the casing. More than that, Apple is famous for their ability to design the internals of their devices.  I have no doubt Apple could place that camera module wherever they want on that phone and make it work.

Personally, I think Apple would keep the module in the upper left corner because of tradition.  It's always been in the upper left corner.  I hope these renders and mockups are wrong, because that off center squircle is disconcerting and just plain ugly.

  • Video demonstrates Hackintosh potential, but still isn't the Mac Pro

Let’s say, for the sake of argument, that these neckbeards cobble together a gizmo that nears the performance of the Mac Pro with similar specs. Now tell me what real professional video studio whose livelihood depends on performance and reliability would actually buy homemade, unsupported hardware running an operating system whose licensing terms expressly forbids its installation on said hardware? So what is the point of this exercise other than to say, “We did it! Ha Ha Ha!” Self-styled techies are such holier-than-thou egomaniacs. inequals said:
I'm a die hard Apple-ite, but I use Hackintosh - but not to get a Pro substitute - I'd rather save up for a Pro (which I absolutely don't need btw) - no, I Hackintosh because Apple will never make a mid-tier PC, also known as the xMac. I love it, and as one guy who isn't on a production workflow it works brilliantly as my home desktop and server. Of course, using my MacBook Pro (2018) always feels spiritually better, haha. But they get on absolutely fine, even with AirDrop and all that (courtesy of some actual Apple silicon inside my Hack providing AirPort and Bluetooth goodness)
So you’re an amateur self-styled techie who does no real work on your machine. It’s a toy for you.
One of the sadder posts I've read on AI.  lkrupp cobbles together a specious argument based on a premise that both Linus and AI clearly said don't do:  Don't try to use this in a commercial environment.  So why argue a point that everyone has already acknowledged no one should do?  I'm guessing lkrupp didn't really read the entire article because the reasons for doing something like this are answered in the article.  It's fun for a certain tech type.  It's satisfies intellectual curiosity.  It's the same reason people mod cars or video games on PC, build raspberry pi gizmos, or any other mentally stimulating project.  Why climb the mountain?  Sometimes it's as simple as "because it's there."   Also, in more practical terms they're trying to drive traffic on their video.  Get them clicks.

It's a sweet project.  Nothing more, nothing less.  I'm sure we've all tinkered... or at least secretly wanted to.  At least I hope we all have.

But yeah, we'll chalk it up to "holier-than-thou egomaniacs" ← makes sense /s

  • Hulu brings 4K streaming to Apple TV 4K and Chromecast Ultra

Just a few minutes ago I was thinking to myself...
Wouldn't Apples service use the most expensive 4K cameras? Apple can afford it.

Believe it or not a lot of "4K" content isn't actually filmed in 4K. This requires newer digital cameras. I hope Apple TV+ will be the first service to offer full 4k/Dolby Vision content on every show and movie. Wouldn't THAT would be great!
Apple's content would be filmed on the best medium for the content being presented, not just the most expensive 4K cameras.  4K just for the sake of 4K would be a waste of bandwidth.  We are discussing a streaming service after all so the quality of the stream is going to be a big consideration.

I guess Apple made Apple TV 4K for no reason?

Maybe there will be an option to toggle off 4K on 3rd party devices.
Apple made an ATV4K so that their streaming device would have 4K capability.  Capability.  Not for their service to have 4K exclusivity.  There's no need for a toggle for 4K.  Content automatically scales to resolution that can be supported by the internet connection bandwidth (25Mbps minimum for 4K streaming) and the screen resolution of the viewing device.  Again, not all content would benefit from 4K so filming everything in 4K doesn't benefit Apple, it's new service, nor it's customers.

  • AT&T automatically blocking spam & fraud calls for new customers

I usually get the ones that begin: "Don't hang up"... at which point I do just that and block them, though I don't know if the call ID is genuine
If you get calls from numbers using your 3 digit exchange code (your first 3 digits after area code), they're typically spoofed numbers trying to appear local.  The good thing for us is phone numbers usually aren't distributed in that manner in a local area.  It would be a bit rare for anyone to receive calls from their same exchange code.  It would be exceedingly rare to receive multiple calls from your exchange code.

I wish I had the ability to bulk block my exchange and maybe a digit above and below my exact exchange ( ex. block 555 and also 554 and 556).  That would kill most of the spam I receive.

  • Hands-on: Audio-Technica's ATH-AD1000X 'audiophile' open-back headphones

    entropys said:
I would think the whole point of headphones is to avoid disturbing others, or to stop yourself being disturbed.if open backed headphones result in audio bleed then they sort of defeat the purpose.

I understand and they have better sound, but really, a set of Kef loudspeakers (choose your preferred audiophile set up here) would do much better. Maybe not at this price though.
You're missing the point of open back headphones.  Open back headphones are desired for their natural soundstage.  They are great for critical listening in a personal environment.  Open backs aren't your typical headset choice in a shared environment.   I listen to mine in my office with the door closed.  A set of loudspeakers serve a different purpose than headphones and shouldn't be compared.  Open backs might bleed some sound into the environment.  Loudspeakers play sound into the environment.  Big difference.

Basically you want to be alone in a quiet space with open back headphones because, while they bleed some sound out, they also allow outside sound in.  That openness is a blessing when it enhances the soundstage.  It's a curse if you're in an evironment where outside noise is coming through.  They really aren't meant for that type of environment.
