M4 Mac mini vs M2 Mac mini compared: Leaner and meaner
The wifi 7 router is till expensive. I wonder even most of consumer replace their router to wifi 6E.
Until the wifi 7 router sell under $200, not much reason Apple adapt wifi 7 at this point.
The iPhone and laptop are running on different environment.
These days, Amazon sell 2.5Gb NIC USB dongle at under $30. For the desktop, I rather use ethernet cable than wifi. -
Apple stuck the Mac mini power button on the bottom
Current my M1 mini sit on the laptop tilt stand for easy to access USB and power button.
I will put M4 mini on the different type of stand, so it won't suck in the desk dust. So, the power button placement is not an issue.
I guess soon lifted stand product sell on Amazon.
Anyway, back plate does not have enough space to put power button and even they put power button somewhere back end will cause some fat finger hit that while try to insert USB-C/TB4 cable and ranting about bad design. The bottom placement will avoid accidental press.
I will order either base model or upgrade RAM to 24 or 32GB. I guess I really don't need 32GB RAM. Apple charge 8GB RAM upgrade for $200 is way too much.
I guess Apple rather want to sell M4 Pro model.
Anyway, I am going to order M4 and trade in M1 Mini. It will cover RAM upgrade and some change left.
The SSD size does not concern me either. I used external SSD 1TB seems fast enough for me.
I already have TB3 external case with 2TB nVME SSD so it should be fast enough. -
Apple jacking up prices on post-AppleCare iPhone battery replacements
That's why I don't hold Apple products more than 2-3 years. I just trade in and get new replacement products.
Pretty much 2 years old iPhone Pro trade in value is $400. So, you spent $600 for 2 years and less than $30 per month.
Currently I have iPhone 15 Pro set to 80% charge and so far, battery health shows 100%.
I am look forward to iPhone 17 Pro.
Order to any company keep parts for old products cost money. Specially anything older than 3 years or so. Unless every iPhone design battery the same, every release of battery holding for just in case replacement request is logistic issue. That's why it cost you.
Apple doing iPhone business over 15 years now. They have enough data for how many people request swap through Apple and how long people actually replace their phone.
So, if that replacement request by Apple is less than 5% of iPhone sales why would Apple lower their cost for replacement?
Once handphone become carry internal battery format instead pop off external battery, it is become replace phone instead battery. Just trade in and buy new one. -
Apple still has a lot of new hardware to release before the end of 2024
27' iMac might never launch. Apple choose 24' has the reason. These days more people choose laptop then stationary desktop. So why Apple want to launch that?
They already have 3 stationary desktop computers. If you include Mac tower then it will be 4.
Laptop side Air has 2 models. Pro has 2 as well base on screen size. Apple launch bigger screen Air was they know more people order laptop then desktop.
Some people wanted iPhone mini but sales shows not that many people want it. Same goes to stationary desktop. You can take your laptop, tablet to go anywhere doing stuff with it but desktop stay at home. Why Apple want to increase desktop sku?
New Mini might be still able to include power internally like Mac Studio. Since Mac mini has no internal component to upgrade by user, they can seal that up.
So Mac mini may be smaller footprint but it will be taller. Stack power board and main board like Studio. And then instead dual fan, mini will have single fan.

Apple could completely ditch Qualcomm's 5G modems by 2027
