Apple grants US developers the same NFC features it was forced to provide in Europe
godofbiscuitssf said:Nms said:I will NEVER, EVER , install apps on my Apple devices that DO NOT come from Apple App Store.
I live in Europe and this is one of the reasons I use Apple Devices. I TRUST Apple.
Don't trust EU, or wannabe devs that want to save pennies sacrificing security and TRUST provided by Apple.
If so, then how comes all those companies are now move on to subscription base or in-app purchase route? This is current business model and they make big money.
Don't think consumer does not want to pay. They just don't want to pay half-baked products. We've been burned so many times.
I think EU just open the door for all kinds of scam. At least Apple try to block some odd ball apps up front, now that workload is consumer's burden.
Good luck with that. In USA, around $10 Billion fraud in consumer level in 2023. That include all kinds of scam email, text message, phone call. Now they want to add on to phone apps. Even company's employees dumb enough click scam email that cause ransom ware attack.
Don't ever think all politicians are so smart, they know everything. And company and devs are work so hard to make perfect software/games. They promised and failed due to tech limit or budget. Yes. All company and dev want save money. -
M4 Mac mini rumored to get a redesign making it smaller than ever before
Low TDP mean not remove venting holes. All those mini pc form factor have common problem is can't cool down properly.
Current Mac mini design is pretty stable why Apple need redesign this. Maybe introduce different color? However entire Mac sales are less than iPad sales alone.
So why Apple need low-cost mac need redesign?
Back panel ports are current design is better.
Far as I can see only form factor change can be done is from square to rectangular design so remove internal PSU to external one like current iMac.
But that will need redesign Mac Mini box layout.
Or Apple boldly move Mac Mini board to share Macbook main board so Mini no longer need external bulky PSU like iMac instead use same Macbook charger.
In this way, Apple can shrink mini form factor radically.
But again, for Apple's earning margin point of view why Apple need redesign Mac Mini at this point?
For M4 Pro version, introduce black Mac Mini will be enough as "PRO". -

How to repurpose an old iPad and make it useful again
jdw said:The last time I charged my iPad from 2012, the battery ballooned so much it popped the display out of the metal frame. I sent it to Apple Japan for recycling. Apple Japan gives you NO CREDIT for doing that. They simply arrange for a shipper to come by and pick up the items you want to recycle. It costs you nothing, but you get nothing. So if you folks in the USA actually get something, count your blessings. Even so, the article is clearly making recommendations about more recent iPads. When your iPad is very old like mine, the battery is a problem. Forget longer battery life and fires. I just want batteries that stop ballooning after they expire, so they won't destroy otherwise good electronics anymore. Current battery tech stinks in that regard.
I rather use Apple trade in every 3 years to buy new iPad.
I am planning to buy new iPad Pro 11’ M4 with trade in 2nd gen iPad Pro 11’ which Apple will pay above $300 for it.
Since Apple soldered RAM, SSD for all Apple computers, there is no reason to hold the product more than 3 to 4 years. I rather trade in so I can get credit from Apple.
