  • Siri gets Election Day date wrong, Apple fixes issue

    Interesting.

I wonder if this happened to everyone or...

if Apple, like Facebook determines you are a conservative or liberal

and if so, which side this little gem affected.

  • House Judiciary says Apple enjoys monopoly power with App Store

    Anilu_777 said:
Google, Microsoft and all the others ALSO charge 30% fees. How is it highway robbery for Apple and not the rest?!
    It’s not.

Their is someone or a group of people with authority that are set on injuring Apple in this.

As we’ve seen with the whole FBI/CIA/Russia shenanigans,, such is unfortunately no longer relegated to the conspiracy theory bin.

    Apple has done everything fairly.

They don’t have a monopoly on smartphones, computers, music, movies, etc.

Apple is a monpoloy by NO definition.

They operate THEIR OWN STORE! so they have rules. That’s a great thing. When I go to Nordstrom, I don’t expect to find Toas quality. When I go to Apple, I don’t expect to find rampant malware.

It’s perfectly right that they do what they do.

If someone else wants to flout the rules, they can go away. That’s fair too.

Google has its own store, but it sucks.

Apple is the only one truly playing fair.

If any store has monopoly power, it is amazon, which literally has the power to sell your products at a loss as part of your contract. They can do whatever they want with YOUR stuff to build their own brand.

And then they can kick you out with not much explanation.

If the judiciary is trying to say that you can only offer products and services that allow customers to be subject to the rampant software malpractice and flat out spying done through various actors, then we have a judiciary problem. Not an App Store one.

  • Next Apple TV could use A12Z or "A14X" in big Apple Arcade push

So I’m just going to say it.

As an Apple Arcade subscriber, it basically sucks.

Limited content that I actually want to play.

I had one game that was worth it to me and that’s it.

Apple makes truly amazing hardware, UI, ux, and productivity software.

But they need to either get seriously about about gaming or just go back to letting devs sell silly little games on iPhone and quit pretending that a selection mobile games Is anything special.

Xcloud? Heck yes. No wonder They we’re afraid of allowing it in the App Store.

Apple could dominate with an Apple silicon Apple TV that is an all in one entertainment device - including safari and Apple Music. But also with the horsepower for relevant console quality gaming.

Will it cost more than $149 or $199? Yes. But worth it.

And that’s where apple excels. Hardware thats worth a dang plus compelling software.

Apple Arcade just doesn’t even come close.

  • Apple shuts down Epic Games developer account

Epic is trying to use bully tactics to steal lunch money from the toughest guy ever by school. So they got sent home with a black eye instead.

Look, epic has for a long time had the best game engine in town. Unreal just keeps getting better. The nearest competitor, CryEngine, has become a distant competitor. Now, with Unteal Emgine 5, Epic has really ensured that their engine is the best there is for a long time. It’s insane what they are doing with lighting and geometry with full rates. Really doing things that no one else has done. And it pays off in massive ways.

Fortnite is not that. It’s a cash grab throwaway kind of game that is fun for some. But ultimately, no big loss.

Unreal Engine is the big deal.

And Epic’s engine is what makes them a big hit in gaming. The games they make are ok. Fortnite is really their big hit now. It was Unreal Tournament years back.

But now matter how popular you are, you still have to pay what you owe. Epic wanted to sell on the App Store, so they were told the terms to do so, they thought it was a good move and signed up.

Now they want to get greedy and steal. And if their partners don’t like them stealing, then they will bully and harass and defame.

There is a word for this in brick and mortar business. It’s called EXTORTION.

Epic needs to be very very careful to quickly take down their clever 1984 commercial and remove messages they sent to Fortnite players blaming Apple   For their folly. And then they need to either pay Apple the 30% or choose to lose business and move on - minus the defamation.

Only in current history can such a popular public entity Blame their own criminal behavior on someone else and actually have some believe it.

This is quite plainly extortion and quite plainly should be judge swiftly and heavily.

If epic didn’t like the contract anymore, they could just leave.

But no. They wanted to steal. Still have the benefit of Apples labor but not pay them what they were owed.

Then instead of apologizing or making it right, they use this rift (that they created) in creating a court case to try to force Apple to accept the theft and even change their business model.

Then they ripped off Apples own 1984 ad but making Apple the bad guy. Then they even hosted anti apple game events.

Then they sent messages to their customers blaming Apple for Not being a victim from their own criminal act.

This is tantamount to applying Popular pressure And defamation in order to pressure Apple to give in to Epics demands.

    That’s extortion folks.

It’s wrong, shouldn’t be tolerated for one second, and needs to be swiftly put down.

If Epic wants to survive as a company, how about do t distort in broad daylight.

Apple should countersue - especially since the whole thing was obviously planned for a long time. CGI or game engine commercials aren’t that easy to create. The speed of the suit, which isn’t that easy to prepare, and game events - which cost a lot of money to create - I mean seriously.

This is extortion via defamation. Frankly I’m shocked to see it so brazenly done by people who definitely know better.

And a strong precedent needs to be set that this will not be tolerated.

  • New Mac malware infects and spreads via Xcode projects

There certainly is a picture forming of yet another multifaceted and coordinated attack on Apple.

Apple is poised to turn the entire industry on its head and absolutely dominate in all areas of computing.

They’ve been THE software leader. And they’ve been the hardware leader on the phone and tablet side.

They’ve been the App Store and business leader.

And now they will tie it all together and press the lightspeed button with Mac hardware.

Intel being dumped by Apple would tank them by itself, but the new popularity of the Mac fefinitely hurt them. Especially with Mac customers opting often for higher end CPUs.

Now we see intel doing some face saving announcements like... GPUs. LOL

NO one on earth cares about Intel CPUs.

There is nothing new. Intel is the same. AMD is doing well in x86 land.

But... the writing is in the wall. The days of x86 dominance is over. Apple Silicon will own x86 in every category.

And we will see others move from x86 if intel and AMD can’t innovate to compete.

Gp, Dell, Samsung, Sony, razed, IBM, etc. will be stuck with slower processors and bulky, compromised designs while Apple moves on to far superior performance and greater degrees of design freedom.

No one in the industry wants Apple to do what they are doing. They are ALL scared. Even Microsoft is reduced to complaining and trying to sue in court. Epic is reduced to complaining that they aren’t allowed to steal.

Intel is reduced to pushing integrated GPU tech. And literally no one has a clue what to do.

Apple has been DESIGNING their own CPUs for a while now. They purchased the best CPU design team known to man in P. A. SEMI from the end of the PowerPC days And have only grown in expertise since. Apple designs easily outperform the best ARM processors (as well as custom designs from Samsung etc) As well as popular x86 processors and that is in Highly constrained mobile devices. Notebooks and desktops open things up considerably.

Apple controlling every component of their products is the stuff of dreams. No one else can do it.

That’s why everyone is scared and basically rioting to ty to tear down Apples success.

Come a looooong way from Michael Dell suggesting Apple be liquidated and the proceeds go to shareholders.

The industry and many need outlets like msnbc and yahoo have been Anti-Apple for a long time.

But it doesn’t natter. Apple doesn’t look at them. They simply keep striving to build the best products on the plant and being fueled by the salty tears of their detractors.
