  • European countries form coalition over contact tracing app concerns

WTF is a ‘digital epidemiologist’? Sounds like a bureaucracy on steroids. First we had the French ‘digital technology minister’. Now we have a Swedish ‘digital epidemiologist’. here in the U.S. we call them ‘czars’ I guess. Any differences other than expanding the bureaucracy exponentially?
    DUDE, seriously.

I know you might not care much about the „rest of the world“ (= not US), but it‘s Switzerland in Europe, not Sweden in Scandinavia...

  • Apple's Claris says coronavirus is driving people to FileMaker

FileMaker has 18 versions under its belt. It's tried and true, stable and polished. I use it all the time to solve issues too complex for Excel. It has run most aspects of our business for over 20 years, and I am quite amazed how well it holds up and adapts to the changing information world. Sure, there are a lot of other options available now. But, if you need something developed quickly, that can be altered quickly, FileMaker is a pretty darn good choice. Looking forward to version 19 landing hopefully in May.
FileMaker is a pile of cow manure.  Ever since 12, it's performance has plummeted, and has been unable to keep up with web technologies.  It cannot handle anything but the most basic of tasks.
Clearly, you have no idea what you are talking about.

  • Apple must expand its COVID tracing technology into large scale testing

Really? All this talk about the importance of privacy all these years, and now we're lost without "big brother"? Is it the only possible path to recovery? Is that really the kind of sacrifice it takes? Not every invention coming from the tech-industry turns out to be for the greater good in the end. I don't have the answers. But I have doubts.

  • COVID-19 disaster shows off Apple's true core

Let’s be real here for a second.

Of course these actions are good. Certainly. But goodness may or may not be the primary motive.

Personally, I suspect that the primary motive is to limit the damage to the company‘s bottom line. The longer the crises, the greater the recession, the greater the loss.

It’s smart leadership. Money well spent from which ever angle you look at it. It’s a win-win.

But it’s not altruistic. For that it would have to be selfless - which it is not.

  • iPad Pro (2020) versus MacBook Air (2020): Performance & features

These benchmarks make me really curious about MacBooks with A-series processors.

They are very power efficient. What if Apple paired two or even four of them (not sure if this is possible from an architectural perspective?).

That would result in a capable machine.
