  • HomePod AppleCare+ costs $39, accidental damage without incurs $279 fee for repair

Still think this device is an IQ test.
$350 for a mono speaker the size of a roll of toilet paper that cannot be used with an Apple TV and is chained to Apple HW and services.
Add in it costs $280 to fix.

I would call that a throwaway speaker from the company that makes throwaway computers, phones and tablets. Apple is fighting Right to Repair everywhere so you can stay on the treadmill and buy your stuff right on schedule.

Not very green Tim. Most e-waste does not get properly recycled- including Apple's stuff.

  • NYT reporter uses megaphone to decry 'slow death' of 5-year-old iPad mini running iOS 9, a...

Read this the other day (I subscribe to the Times) and wondered why it had not landed on the Apple sites.

Apple needs to show some love to the iPad mini. If Apple and the carriers would allow iPads to function as phones I would gladly keep my Apple LTE watch and drop the iPhone. An up to date iPad Mini with LTE would be a great WiFi phone base via the watch or Bluetooth headphones as it is not too big to bring around.

it would be interesting to see a breakdown of communication between traditional phones (including cell phones), app based communication like FaceTime and Skype, text messaging, apps like Apple’s messages and Facebook messenger, and email. The whole concept of a phone is probably on borrowed time.

  • Apple Park's new employees asked to push for more housing in Cupertino

Spent a little time looking at the area on Apple and Google Maps after reading the article and this thought came to me:
When Apple has fully moved into Apple Park, why not swap the Mall Property for One Infinite Loop which is mostly a huge parking lot like the old H-P Campus that Apple bought for Apple Park?

This would give Apple control over a 50 acre site adjacent to Apple Park and allow redevelopment of the old HQ site which is getting old.

Apple could build a mixed use development on the old mall site (residential over retail) and connect the two with a pedestrian/Bike bridge over the highway. This could add housing close to campus (walk/bike distance), add housing close to the new HQ, remove the eyesore of a dead mall, and allow for redevelopment of the old Apple site (approx 32 acres). It is not going to fix everyone's housing concerns, but could allow Apple a controlled way to grow near the new HQ without a major disruption of existing housing stock or retail space.

    They certainly have the money.

Other than zoning, how is this anybody's business other than the property owner's?

I am not a Conservative, but this kind of thing is what drives people crazy and is more harmful than helpful.
