  • Apple sees rise in departures from Health, iCloud teams

They are going to find out they had it best at Apple. A lot of regret in the future.

Unless they simple are getting paid more. at the new. gig. Then it may be worth it.

The kind of people who would leave a good job and good company for a few dollars more are not the kind the company wants to keep.

  • 'iPhone 13' launch may feature 'Time to Run' for 'Apple Watch Series 7'

Does Apple typically offer last year’s model at a discount at the Apple Store when the new iPhone’s are released?

Typically,  but 3rd parties like BestBuy and online vendors who sponser ai (like B&H, Adorama, etc) tend to offer bigger discounts on prior models in the weeks after the new one is released.  The Apple store is always going to be the highest priced store for Apple products -- nobody ever sells higher but many sell at a lower price.

The advantage of the Apple is store is you get to look, feel and compare as well as get expert advice -- plus the aura.

  • Apple promises macOS scanner fix in a future update

Let me get this straight. Apple introduced a bug that broke flat bed scanners even though this technology has been well understood for decades.
    ...
I suspect the "kids" doing this may have never seen a scanner.   Mine has not been opened or even connected for many, many years.  I can't remember the last time I used it.   It was probably back when I used it to scan images for my Fax machine.
Medical offices still use them.  But, increasingly they are going the way of Fax Machines.

  • Parallels Desktop 17 brings Windows 11 to Mac with enhanced M1 support

    Peza said:
It was going so well, till they mentioned it’s a subscription service fee! No way is this worth paying 80 dollars or pounds EVERY year for! They’ve seriously miscalculated their market with that.

My grandson is returning to school soon and, without Windows, his MacBook would be essentially an expensive paperweight.

While it's ridiculous that he would have to pay for something that has, historically, been standard (Bootcamp), it would nevertheless be necessary -- IF HE BOUGHT AN M1 MACBOOK.  But that's a very big IF.  He would not only have to pay an exorbitant rental fee but then be dependent on the whims and fortunes of some private company he never heard of?  I've always stressed to him "Don't do stupid stuff."

Right now, fortunately, his x86 MacBook is running both MacOS and Windows OS very well.  But, if and when it dies, it is unlikely he would buy another MacBook.
That would be 'doing stupid stuff'.

It's great that Parallels is out there.   But it's really just a life preserver for those who made a mistake buying an M1 Mac when they also had a need to run Windows -- say to run a school or work application designed for Windows (which most are).

There are few who need to run MacOS.   For most it's a "want" not a "need".   But there are millions who need to run Windows  -- at least part of the time.

  • Apple Watch credited with saving man's life after fall

I should get one for my mother of 97…
    Y E S !  (preferably one with LTE)
    Especially if she is mobile.

She can put it on in the morning and take it off for charging when she gets up in the morning --- even wear it in the most dangerous place for a senior:   The shower.    In addition, it can be used as a timer for the stove and a reminder for taking medications.

Also, she'll always get your phone calls or be able to call you if needed.

There are many reasons for a senior to wear one and not many good ones for not.   Yeh, money is one -- but the cost of the watch is less than the cost of a few weeks in the hospital.
