  • European Union seeks to ban backdoors for encrypted communications

The threat from terrorists is the most over blown threat to society if you look at actual numbers. Look at how many people die in car accidents each year, how many from private guns, how many are killed by the police, preventable diseases, poverty and famine. Terrorism gets big ratings and is constantly in the news to sell advertisement for the news companies. Don't even consider giving away your privacy when societies real threats will more likely do you in before a member of ISIS moves into your block.
What the hell are private guns? Also, I didn't realize an inanimate object could just get up all by itself and kill people.

You know what he meant.  Guns in the hands of private citizens rather than the police or military.  Personally, I'm strongly pro-gun rights, but let's not beat people up over every little word choice.  Firearms discussions are where the conservatives get as "politically correct" as the left ever does.

  • First look: Apple's powerful iMac Pro

I just realized that the STARTING price is $5K.  I wonder what the maxed out version is going to cost.  $10K?

  • North Korean company launches own 'iPad,' ignoring Apple trademarks

IP theft, trademark/copywrite infringement is pretty common all over Asia. It is almost like a cultural norm, and they typically don't understand that they've even done anything wrong.

I agree with you, but, to be fair I would rephrase the last bit.  From the perspective of their legal systems they aren't doing anything wrong.

  • Apple makes New York Magazine editor Lauren Kern 'editor in chief' at Apple News

Fake news and click bait news sites are getting out of hand. Hopefully Apple News improves or better fix it like Facebook hasn't been able to.

Fortunately Apple News makes it very easy to say "don't show me anything from this source any more."  I have a pretty solid feed now with very little effort on my part.

  • Apple acquires "dark data" specialist Lattice Data for $200M

And you're joking about the first part (I hope).
How is 'regular business activities' defined, then? Maybe I misunderstand.
Another example: a business records every transaction it conducts, but if it's only used to conduct that transaction, it's "dark data."  If you use it to determine what product to recommend to which customer or which products sell best at what time of day/week/year, etc. you're putting dark data to use.  Data is only "worthless" if you can't put it to use.
