iPhone SE 4 development lurches back to life with new tech
hammeroftruth said:It could be that Apple wanted to kill it and force SE buyers into buying a mini, but that didn’t happen. I think the SE would outlast the mini, because of its physical size and the last iPhone with Touch ID. -
Best laser printers for Mac in 2023: revolutionize your printing experience
Glad I switched back to inkjet from laser. I now have an Epson Inkjet 3000-series EcoTank printer. The ink-bottles aren't expensive and it even came with two sets of bottles. The teenage kid in the house, who loves printing, didn't manage to empty the first set in 1,5 years: they're halfway empty now. Extrapolating that would mean the printer came with 6 years of ink included - this is a bargain. What a contrast to my former inkjet printers with those expensive ink cartridges and even my color laser printer with those expensive toner cartridges. And as a bonus a document feeder for scanning. Only drawback: one has to print at least one color page once in two weeks. With that teenager in the house that's not an issue.

Apple rolling out nudity-blurring child safety feature to more countries
I'm from the Netherlands. I don't really care about my child seeing any nudity (she'll immediately yell "Yuck!" anyway). However I do care about child abuse, blackmail between kids, bullying and pornography (especially abusive, agressive or disrespectful pornography). I do have my doubts regarding American companies trying to enforce American puritan morals upon my child. I hate to see my child already feels nudity is bad, just because of the leading puritan American morals in a lot of series and movies while at the same time agression and gore is apparantly quite accepted in the US while it's not on this side of the Atlantic. So Apple now decides she cannot see nudity but she can see violence? Yes, I would prefer my kid not to send any nude pictures and to stay away from Omegle etc. But that's way more my task as a parent, not Apple's.
Anyway, I just read the iCulture article. It seems upon receival of a suspected nude picture, Apple will just blur the photo and warn the child with "This photo could be sensitive. Are you sure you want to view it?". And upon sending a possible nude picture "It's your choice but make sure you feel safe". Now, teens are per definition very curious and my kid is no exception: she'd definately want to view such a picture but will learn pretty fast not to view any more such pictures from certain people in a chatgroup. So, it's not as bad as I initially thought it was. It might even be quite helpful but still, the message it bears is "nudity is bad" and that's something I definately don't want my child to learn.

Mac is less popular among Apple customers than iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch
waveparticle said:My ten years old grandson uses a mouse with his Chrome laptop instead of the builtin trackpad. Mouse is faster and more precise in pointing than the trackpad.
When my daughter was 10 she had to use a Chrome laptop for school, but she also used a Windows laptop with touch screen and a Macbook. And yes, she did have a mouse which could be used on any of those laptops. She's 14 now and she prefers a big Wacom Intuos tablet now as input device. She settled with the Macbook now, never looked back at the Chromebook nor the Windows laptop although both were better spec'd than the old Macbook Air 2014.
Anyway, the iPhone and Apple Watch are personal devices while in many families a Macbook (or iMac), an iPad and an Apple TV are shared devices. Did Apple take that into account? Besides, the iPhone and Apple Watch are devices which are renewed more often than a Macbook, iPad or Apple TV. -
