  • Meta, Amazon, and more want 10-year ban on states regulating AI

    Pekoe said:
AI will be the most disruptive technology since the Industrial Revolution.  As such it desperately needs heavy regulation lest it destabilize society.  I have a few suggestions:

    (1) All AI tasks are assigned a human equivalent and must pay all taxes that a human worker would've earned.  The money earned will be used to help those put out of work by AI.

    (2) We should create the equivalent of footnotes for AI.  These footnotes can be included in text documents, and even embedded in images/video.  These AI footnotes would reveal what/how AI was used.  This provides transparency to the AI world.

    (3) the ability of AI training to scrape all info on the internet and elsewhere without permission or compensation must end.

These heavy regulations would undoubtedly slow down AI, but they would also give societies time to keep AI from literally destroying the world.
I agree with your 2nd and 3rd points. I don't agree with your first point though. How would you identify the "list of people put out of work by AI"? On the surface level, it may seem easy to do, but it is a lot more complicated than that. It will remain a Subjective one and difficult to get consensus on.

  • Trump Mobile's made-in-US iPhone 17 competitor is really made in China

I highly encourage all the super smart MAGA folks to buy this amazing piece of technology! I’m sure it’s super amazing, very secure, and will be a great purchase!

Holy F - people voted for this absolute insanity.
You know what - One of the MAGA persons in this forum is NOT ready to buy this amazing piece of technology.

  • EU repair laws start June 20 - How compliant is Apple?

The EU requirements are perfectly reasonable for the goals they have in mind.
Apple is the winner on this. Imagine any of those "sell and forget" competitors offering repairability for 7 years.
I do however hope Mother Nature won't visit the next keynote. A card will do!
Well said. This is one of the topics that Apple shareholders in this forum just do NOT get the fact that the "right to repair" directives will impact Chinese OEMs much more than Apple. They see slight inconveniences for Apple due to EU laws and start attacking EU without thinking about the benefits for consumers. And the reality is that Android OEMs will have to do a lot more to comply with the EU laws than Apple has to do.

  • Trump demands 25% tariff on any iPhone not made in the US

Don't feed the trolls because at this point that's all I can assume they are. Dislike the post. Ignore the poster. Move on. Attention gives them power. Flag posts that violate the rules and move on.
Or you could, since you do have this power, delete their posts and ban their accounts. Just a suggestion.
The problem is they are not breaking rules, just saying weird stuff that comes off cultish. Can't just ban them.
I was wondering about the same. Now I get it. Thank you for the explanation.
