  • Android Xiaomi Mi 8 shamelessly copies iPhone X

One thing I am understand is - Why is Apple NOT suing them? This would teach them a lesson and also prevent blatant copying like what is going on, particularly with the notch.

Google does nothing but steal. They steal your information. They stole Android from Apple. Google is nothing but a thief.
Very few consumers see Google as a thief. Most believe Google is a generous company giving away free services to the poorest people in the world. You do realize that Android OS is the most prolific OS in the world and used by billions of consumers around the globe. Those consumers are happily giving their information to Google and almost no one is complaining about it. Most consumers would always go with free services over personal privacy. 88% mobile market share percentage is proof enough of that.
If they could afford iPhone, they would buy iPhone. Ferrari will never beat market share, bit everybody would drive one of they could. Same with Tiffany. Same with iPhone.
How many people in this planet can AFFORD a Ferrari? About 200 million people every year??? This Ferrari comparison does not even make sense - A smartphone which is owned by every Tom, Dick and Harry (about 1 billion of them in this planet) Vs an elitist car. What do you think is the cost of an Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ or Note 8 or Pixel 2/2 XL or Huawei P20 Pro/Mate RS? The people who buy those phones cannot afford an iPhone??? Seriously???

  • Editorial: Bloomberg spins Apple's Event as a desperate, blind stab for cheap iPads in edu...

A prime example, most recently just from this article discussion, the staunch claim that Apple trusts its customer's data with Google, when this is factually WRONG. Apple does not "trust" their data with Google, as it merely uses Google, like it does Amazon and Microsoft, as a silo to house customer data in a fully encrypted, inaccessible manner. Using a third-party company to host completely scrambled, non-monetizable data does not explicitly imply trust in any way, shape or form.

On the very same topic, GatorGuy posted the below information as well. Did you get a chance to read that? If no, no problem. Why don't you talk about the below points NOW?

-What about Spotlight Search... Apple endorses them to their customers by making them the default (in return for some money)
-Safari default search provider... Apple endorses them to their customers by making them the default (in return for some money)
-Google Ads in Apple News... Apple endorses them to their customers (in this case the advertisers from the news organizations) but not clear in return for what.

  • Apple's iPhone X takes top premium smartphone spot in India, crushing OnePlus, Samsung

This is a very confusing article...
"Apple has retained the lead in India's premium smartphone market"

"while Samsung was again pushed into third place, a significant drop from its position near 30 percent one year ago, and its share above 50 percent last summer

"the overall Apple shipments in the premium segment declined 31 percent YoY"

"the Indian premium smartphone segment grew 20 percent annually by volume and 28 percent by value in CY 2017."

Yes, I'll have another cup of coffee please... It's me.

Very valid observations!!! Few points specific to Indian context.

    1. Indian PM announced stupid demonetization on Nov-08-2016. This resulted in one-off heavy spending on iPhones, Jewelry and other luxury items in Indian market in 2016Q4.

    2. This was considered as a one-off phenomena, causing iPhones share in Indian market to be much higher than NORMAL. The expectation was that iPhones would lose marketshare in India in subsequent quarters, which eventually happened. 2017Q1 and 2017Q2 numbers reflect this reality.

    3. Fast forward 2 more quarters - Samsung is losing ground in Premium market in India and Apple & OnePlus are the beneficiaries.

Bottomline is - Apple witnessed a one-off strong growth in Indian market in 2016Q4. Take that out - Samsung was the leading OEM in premium segment in India UNTIL 2017 Q2. Things have changed NOW. Samsung has lost the plot in India in premium segment (>$500).

Additional info, unrelated to this specific article - Things are NOT as dire for Samsung as anyone would imagine, just by looking at the numbers mentioned in this article. Samsung is still the No. 1 smartphone OEM in India, excluding low end (<$150, Xiaomi is leading in that segment). Samsung is the leading OEM in mid-range smartphones in India ($150 - $500) where they are decently profitable (unlike Xiaomi who are selling smartphones at near break-even prices at the low-end). So if anyone thinks that Samsung's situation in India would plumb to the depth similar to Samsung's market/profit share in China, they are mistaken. They have strong presence in both online & offline sales channels in India. Samsung is here to stay as Leader in Indian smartphone market for many more years. Only thing that they have to do is - Reduce the price of their over-priced S & Note series phones and make them competitive in India. At least, that seems to be the takeaway for me, based on the graph shown in this article.

  • Google closes $1.1B HTC deal, setting up collision course with Apple's iPhone

Samsung’s long term goal is to replace Android with Tizen on all of their devices which would choke Android off completely.

Did anyone notice how Google paid Samsung 4 billion to keep Google search the default engine on galaxy devices? It’s even more than Google had to bribe Apple with to keep their search the default on iOS. That’s actually a bad position to be in.

Tizen is already gaining large market share in India and Bangladesh. And if India is the best big thing after China, what Samsung is doing there is going to be a death knell for Android.

Ok, Google is doomed, AGAIN!!! It is a bit funny, reading your "Google is doomed" comments. How long would you repeat this sentence "Samsung is going to replace Android with Tizen"? Any timelines? Until 2030? Could you please check with Samsung executives and let us know?

Google paid Samsung 4 billion to keep Google search the default engine on galaxy devices??? Any source to backup that claim?

Tizen is already gaining large market share in India??? Any source to backup that claim??? Btw, I am from India and Android rules to the tune of 99% devices and 1% for iOS!!! Even Samsung has given up selling Tizen phones NOW. But you are saying it is gaining marketshare in your wild imagination.
