  • Fortnite gains controller support on iPhone and iPad with latest update

Wow!  While I’m no fan of Fortnite, this could be a boon for Apple!  Oh wait, no, they are DOOMED.

  • Apple employees met with AR waveguide technology suppliers at CES 2019

Can someone explain to me why any kind of 8k display is needed for AR?  [VR I could possibly understand - maybe].
Not sure. Perhaps to open up the FOV?  In my limited time with a hololens, not only was the FOV small, the resolution wasn’t that great. Perhaps they are simply testing the maximum possibilities to scale down once they have their target points.

  • Apple's stock is the one for 'the next decade,' former retail head Ron Johnson declares

Whether customers buy a new / replacement iphone is erroneous. The question is what will — not just tease, tempt, make, whatever— but actually permanently remove an Apple customer from Apple’s ecosystem for the rest of their life. That’s the only thing that Apple needs to worry about. Do they make compelling products that welcome you into the fold, offer services, accessories, and subsequent replacements sticky enough that you dont want to throw their ass in an oven and cook em. (Loose reference to Hansel and Gretel)?

Apple’s got profits leaking out of them that go into new projects, investors, debtors, and lobbyists and yet they still build a warchest. It would take a massive collection of screwups to force Apple off-course.

  • Rumor: Apple developing seventh-generation iPod touch, mulling USB-C for next iPhone

My eldest daughter is under 10. In a few years, I see nothing wrong in helping her understand the rules and responsibilities of owning such a mobile device. And yes, a $200-300 such device is much more palatable compared to an $750-1000 device, even if it’s an older handset.

Though a $50 replacement battery for my X in two to three years is also cheaper 🧐

  • How to keep your iPhone from repeatedly dropping Wi-Fi network connections

I have the opposite problem. When I am away from home the iPhone connects to some WiFi node I used in the past which would normally be great but for some reason that node isn’t actually transferring data. So I have to disconnect from WiFi and force cellular.
Not quite the issue Ive had recently, but my iPhone X, while streaming itunes content on WIFI, will lock up, typically after 2-4 minutes of watching. I have to put the phone into airplane mode and force close the TV app, then reconnect to wifi, or, just tell siri to turn off wifi and then tell siri to play the movie / show.

This doesn’t happen on any of our ipads or AppleTV that are streaming Netflix or iTunes all day long. Nor my wife’s iPhone 7, just my X.

    How’s that for annoying?
