  • August halts sales of flawed View doorbell, promises fixed version 'in the near future'

The primary reason is that the Home app doesn’t offer doorbell/lock integration....

First off, the Home app is for managing and controlling your HomeKit environment.  If someone presses your doorbell you wouldn’t open the app, just look at the video notification and then tell Siri to unlock the door.  Apple could add this in the future, but you should probably lock yourself out of the market, good business decision...

    Idiots!

Its harder to develop for HomeKit?  You can’t even get it to work correctly without HomeKit, just leave this to companies that care about Apple users and handle coding basics.

  • Renders of '2019 iPhone' depict square camera bump as part of rear glass

The protruding bump would not be made with glass, as it would scratch up easily.  Apple uses sapphire to protect camera components.  While not very aesthetic, the square is economical and functional.

  • Facebook 'unintentionally' harvested email contacts from 1.5M users

Winding down a feature or a project usually involves some planning.  Depending on the type of shutdown, there’s hardware, API references, virtual machines, encryption keys, SSL certs, server side scripts, database connections, etc.

So to be clear, Facebook dumps resources into new privacy destroying features but can’t be bothered with appropriate asset retirement.
I work in cyber security and Facebook’s platform cannot be secure with legacy assets in play.  I would expect a serious hacking incident soon, as their attack surface is not properly managed.  The very best cyber security software cannot protect against ignorance and poor implementation.

This might sound like common sense; do not but private things on Facebook, do not connect any financials, do not use the Sign in with Facebook option, and do not underestimate Facebook’s deplorable track record.

  • Facebook confirms plans for voice assistant to match Siri, Alexa & Google Assistant

It’s obvious that the next paradigm shift for the internet will be AR/VR.  I wonder if Facebook will name their virtual assistant Oculus, since it is their future platform.  The next logical step for Facebook is developing a digital assistant, it will be needed for AR/VR.

Facebook seeing what I see, knowing what I look at, listening to my life, no thank you.

Sounds a bit pricey for a Bluetooth power strip.

There should be more to it or there should be a lower price.
It uses WiFi and is reported as high build quality....
