A brief history of the iPad, Apple's once and future tablet
I got an iPad 3 as soon as it was released. The Retina display is what finally convinced me it was worthwhile. It was one of the best purchases I ever made as it lasted over five years before being replaced. It still does duty as the device where I store all my reference books. Where do we go from here? I think eventually the Mac and iOS lines will need to merge. Processing power has gotten to the point where one device can handle 90% of users needs. Microsoft has already tested the waters with its Continuum functionality in Windows Mobile and I actually liked it, but the lack of mobile applications really held it back. With the excellent developer support and product penetration Apple already has it would seem they would be the perfect candidate to come out with a dockable tablet/phablet device that could run the programs most users need. -
Foxconn profits ride high on iPhone X, dispelling worries about Apple's sales
Does Foxconn get paid that much more just assembling an iPhone X vs. an iPhone 8 or an iPhone 7? Apple sources most of its components directly so Foxconn isn't making a profit off the higher cost A11 processor, the AMOLED screen, or the FaceID module. I can see overall iPhone orders affecting revenue, but attributing that revenue to a specific model is quite a leap of logic. -
First look: Apple's new 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support
jcs2305 said:dunks said:I like the new 9.7" iPad and am glad to see it get pencil support. I wish it had a laminated display though as it's noticeably thicker (and heavier) than my current iPad Air 2. I'd take that trade off for additional battery life, but it's clear they started making them thicker again as an up-sell to the iPad Pro line. For that I might as well stick with my Air 2.
The Pros seem outrageously priced at this point particularly in international markets. Sure you get a better display, but I'm not sure it's a case of twice the experience for twice the price.
I like the idea of the Apple pencil, but it's much too long. Two thirds of its current length would feel so much better in the hand. If you can top up the charge by plugging it in for a minute the battery life is more or less moot.
I am not sure about international markets but the Ipad pro is priced $150.00 more that the Air 2 when it was released at 499.00 back in 2014. So I am not sure where you get 2x the price from? Again I can't speak for international markets. I am in the USA.. If you have the Air 2 the speakers, ProMotion display, 64gb starting storage and extra size of the 10.5 is worth $150.00..IMHO. I thought it was a bit to expensive initially as well, but once I had a chance to use the 10.5 pro I didn't look back. -
Live from Apple's 'Field Trip' education event in Chicago
I think December quarter sales for the iPad were pretty good, mainly due to the big box retailers offering them for $249 during the holiday season. You know they weren't losing money on the sale so it is possible for Apple to market a refreshed model for $259 and still be profitable.
Sales are slipping by the way. FY14 was the high point and Apple has had lower same-quarter sales almost every quarter since. The tablet market is saturated. Apple offering a good product at a competitive price is a good thing for consumers. -
