  • Jony Ive's departure follows years of dissatisfaction and absenteeism

This at least explains the notch! It always puzzled me how Ive would design something so functionally bad considering his history. Now that at least makes sense, he had kinda bailed out by that point because the nature of Apple had changed from visionary to status quo.

  • iPhone's Q1 2019 share of EMEA market lowest in five years

The article simply reflects reality, iPhone sales are falling and they are not good value for money currently. They are so expensive and they offer so little for the price, customers are starting to realise this and change. I personally did this when I saw the design of the x, when I saw the notch I changed from my iPhone to a galaxy s8, I now have a note 9. The note is expensive yes but the feature set is vastly greater than the iPhone. I still have my iPad, iPads are the best tablets going but iPhones are sadly needing both more features and a significant price drop.

  • Comparing Apple's iPhone XR versus Google's Pixel 3a XL

This pixel 3a is an exceptional phone. It brings top grade features that actually matter to the midrange - camera, screen, battery life. It is a game changer, this alongside Samsung’s a series give little reason to pay anything near $1000 for a phone! Why? It’s specced so high it no longer matters, laptop grade processor to open Facebook? Aye sure. The snapdragon 6xx series that the pixel 3a runs can still even run fortnite on full settings.

This phone will make waves as people will see they are being conned, Apple will be the worst hit by that awakening especially when that hideous humped monstrosity is released later this year.

  • Samsung to spend $116B in next decade to overtake chipmakers TSMC, Intel, Qualcomm

Investing in core competency I see.. Making awesome mobile electronics is hard. Especially when you don't have any good software.
Agreed.  Samsung does a lot of things well.  Their best bet going forward is de-emphasizing phones, and re-up their parts business.

Phones are a commodity business, and Samsung is poor at software (which would allow them to differentiate).  This just makes sense...
Yikes, these two comments are utterly astonishing.  Samsung makes brilliant phones, the hardware and current design is the best of ANY phone maker, including Apple who are sticking out ugly phones that would never have got past Jobs, remember when tech was meant to be art? Have you seen the leaks of the camera mountain on the next phone?

As for software, it is very fair to say that Samsung used to release terrible software. However one ui which came out with pie is generally very good. In fact I have never had an app or phone crash on my note 9, ever! I have however on my iPad. It’s fine for us to have preferences but let’s accept that is what they.

  • 'iPhone XI' and 'iPhone XI Max' case manufacturing dummies pop up on Chinese social media

This looks vile! The cameras on the back, if they are not flush...ugly as.

That argument that they take better photos? Come on guys! All smart phones take good photos these days and most manage to do so without making the back of the phone minging.
