  • 25 years of Apple's innovation with iPod

I remember thinking the iPod was too expensive when it came out. My best friend had a Musicmatch Jukebox, and it had 20GB of storage instead of the 5GB of an iPod. It used 6 AA batteries, and was sort of like a thick portable CD player. Then I went to an Apple store and tried an iPod. I knew I wanted one after that, but I couldn't afford one for a couple more years. Then when I went to college, I got a 12" PowerBook G4 and it came with an iPod, too. Man, that was a sweet setup for 2004! I remember using the screen of the iPod as a flashlight when the power was out in my dorm. I didn't get my first cell phone until a year later, so the iPod was like my phone - something I took with me regularly and used to tell time, keep a basic calendar and notes, etc.

  • HomeKit Smart doorbell with Face ID expected by 2026

Heat, heat, heat… if this doorbell can’t handle a south facing door location it will end up being a major black eye for Apple.  I have TWO south facing doors in SoCal that are blasted by the sun.  Dark gray doorbell cases often exceed 140 degrees (really, did nobody take thermal engineering ???)

I have been thru SIX doorbells that failed,  One of the Aqara died this week.  Plenty of power: 24V 40VA transformer.  Great WiFi.  Even tried painting eone case white.  Sigh
Yeah, I'm glad our UniFi doorbell faces North. We did have a camera mount on the West side of our house melt in the sun, had to replace it with one made from a tougher plastic. I imagine a doorbell cam on the side door would have some issues unless we mounted it in something that keeps the sun off.

  • 16-inch MacBook Pro M4 Max review: The pinnacle of the portable Mac

Re: the lack of WiFi 7, does anyone know if that's somewhat baked in with the M4? The iPP with M4 doesn't have it, right? They may be limited by the CPU design.

  • 16-inch MacBook Pro M4 Max review: The pinnacle of the portable Mac

There is an error in the article. It states that the 14" MBP comes in M4 and M4 Pro variants. No mention of the M4 Max 14" MBP, so I did a quick double check and Apple does indeed still offer the Max chip in the 14" model.

  • Hack upgrades Mac Studio internal SSD for less than half of Apple's prices

I'm guessing it wouldn't be possible to swap back to the original Apple SSD then? I always swapped the original RAM into my 27" iMacs before taking them in to Apple, not because it voided the warranty but because it was one less thing they could use to give a PEBKAC diagnosis.
