  • Gaming and AI are in Mac's future, even with low memory capacities

Of course we all know this is BS. The real reason is that Tim Cook wants us to climb the spec ladder. A memory upgrade is probably a better choice versus upgrading cores or even moving from a Pro to Max.

  • Upcoming iOS 18 to offer more customizable home screen

I miss being able to move home screens and icons around from inside macOS. Previously this was done within the iTunes app. Doing this on an iPhone can be a laborious task since you can't move the entire screen, only a single icon at a time. If something akin to this arrives I'd be happy.
Tell me about it! And if Apple would like to keep this editing capability on the phone instead of needing a computer, I suggest they create some sort of a split screen function where you can resize the 'split' area. The top would then be some sort of a folder/app clipboard where you can drag items into, then on the bottom you'd navigate to the destination area and move the items out of the clipboard. Something like that. Because right now the slightest mistake in interaction screws up the layout...

Ps: technically you can select multiple items. Tap/hold an icon until it wiggles, keep your finger on it, while using a second finger to tap and add items to the stack. It's the moving around different screens that's the shitty part...

  • Next-gen CarPlay battles Android Automotive for carmakers, drivers

I'd be scared to own a car w/Android anything.

If my Sony TV with its Google TV is any indication of app reliability, I could imagine a situation where I'd have to reboot an app to have it function correctly.

Not something, I want to do while driving!
Your car uses different autonomous computers and systems, similar to avionics.

Usually the system that controls the engine and related calculations (e.g traction control, optimizations related to adaptive suspension, etc) are closed off from secondary things such as airco and other systems, which are also separate from media/entertainment/bluetooth and navigation tools.

If you look at the latest Tesla models where they removed indicator stalks (extremely stupid), they still offer a backup method where you can change between parking, reverse, drive and neutral.

That of-course doesn’t change your concern - a failing entertainment system is extremely annoying and road rage worthy. But how a car is set up shouldn’t make it dangerous.

  • Bitcoin app accused of stealing $120,000 in another App Store failure [u]

Most of the security / safety that Apple promotes is psychological. It's branding. It's marketing.

Set aside their notarisation processes (which is a great concept and really works!), the actual human review process is inefficient, prone to $$$ bias and Apple politics and human errors. Of the 30+ games and apps I deployed on iOS/iPadOS involving major media stakeholders, Apple sometimes just forgot to review our apps (staying in a queue for weeks), didn't communicate for days, rejected publication based on nonsensical reasons and misunderstandings, costing stakeholders thousands and thousands of dollars, especially when the app was tied to an important media announcement.

I could design a game that passes Apple review, but after 50 days suddenly changes from a game into a pornographic content video player and Apple would *never* know about it as part of their review process. Yes, my account would be banned as soon as the first complaints roll in, but by then the damage is done.

The truth is that Apple obviously cannot review every SKU on their store, even with a large team.
The primary reason for Apple to be the gate-keeper is not to protect the interests of its consumers, but themselves.
Which is what companies do, not just Apple.

So, I'm looking forward for other parts of the world forcing Apple (and similar competitors) to open up their ecosystem and allow for side-loading and third-party stores. This IS in the best interest of its users.

  • Apple Vision Pro one month review: a new reality is setting in

Let’s be honest here, this thing will collect dust within a few months. As expected.
Oh, so it's within a few "months" now. Up from a few "weeks" which was the prediction before its launch.

You're always so positive, BrainFreeze. Let's talk again in a few months times. Maybe you have upgraded your prediction to a few "years" then. As expected.
You know just as well that ‘weeks’ or ‘months’ equate to the same sentiment.
It is a failure of a product. They’ll get it to something better eventually but not this one. Saying that as an entrepreneur in VR (focused on enterprise use, before that in gaming).
The Meta Quest is a much better product. Not because it has better hardware (it is inferior) but because it’s simply a better offering.

I am extremely positive about Apple’s MacBooks and iPhones, despite my criticism on storage. I’m very positive about the EU handling Apple. I love the regular iPad. I like the Apple Watch.
I’ve been an Apple user since mid-90s.

I have a lot of criticism on what Apple has become as a company. But I’m not alone in that.

If you want a more positive guy, go watch a comedy? Not sure what to tell you, other than that I’m not here to entertain you 🤷🏻‍♂️ although I welcome a good “let’s agree to disagree” debate.
