  • Europe demands Apple open up iOS for better accessory compatibility

Verstager is total moron. There is ZERO chance of Apple ever releasing its propriety OS for either the iPhone or iPad to 3rd party vendors.

I would agree, but that's not what's being asked of them. As I'm reading it, Apple/Google will have to allow 3rd party vendors to call on/use/access the hardware on an iPhone or Android phone, to facilitate connections.  This is not about installing iOS on some third-party product.
Finally someone who actually read the article and doesn’t respond with the default American “EU sucks! I love Apple like my mommy” reaction.

What the EU is asking is not to turn iOS into Linux.

What is happening right now will eventually happen in the US as well; allowing third party stores, allowing users to truly choose between vendors of services (e.g same access to APIs by iCloud, Dropbox, etc). It’s to allow for competition.

Don’t forget: Apple doesn’t operate in the market. They ARE the market now.

  • iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus may have been the bestsellers in debut weekend

I think it’s pretty insane that Apple still puts a 60 Hz screen on a $900 iPhone 16 and I believe this demonstrates how desperately they are trying to extract more value out of the iPhone Pro.

People are starting to become fed up paying € 1500 or so for a Pro phone with enough storage (excluding insurance and cover). It’s a commodity device.

I happen to own both the 15 and the 15 Pro (with the former being for work). The screen sucks on the 15 (120 Hz does a lot for the perception of speed), but for the rest it feels like the same device, unless you are focused on prosumer videography.

  • iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus arrive with Camera Control button and more speed

Ignore the marketing, take it face-value. The reason it’s a snooze-fest is because the product has been mature for years now. Not much Apple can do about it.

  • Apple could completely ditch Qualcomm's 5G modems by 2027

Apple is really getting rid of many third party components. Remember the initial CPU which was Samsung ARM? Gone. Apple designs them and makes them. Remember the GPU by PowerVR? Gone. Apple makes it. Remember Intel? Gone. Apple Silicon. Now, we're seeing that with 5G modem.

But at the same time, I can see why Apple's fed up with those competitors trying to capitalize on Apple's success with outrageous fees.

Qualcomm seems to be in the losing game in the long run by refusing to cooperate with an important client.

What are you blathering about? Qualcomm isn’t “refusing to cooperate”. They are a supplier and like any supplier they need to maximize profits for their shareholders.
And since they are crucial to Apple’s success, they have a lot of power in their demands.

The exact same reason Apple is charging us an arm and a leg for their products. And to even profit more from us with their products, they want to lower their cost by producing their own 5G chip, next to having more control over its design.

You are treating Apple as if they are some magical, mystical company that works for our best interest. They are not. It’s just business.

  • Upcoming M4-based Mac mini rumored to replace USB-A with more USB-C ports

I'm happy to see they are ditching USB-A. I avoid USB-A ports and only buy USB-C / Thunderbolt devices and I use UBC-C / Thunderbolt  to connect directly to HMDI, DisplayPort, etc, since no hub or adapter is needed. A transition I started back in 2019.
Same here! Been strategically replacing them with USBC. This is also why I’m waiting for the new Apple keyboard that ditches lightning. I refuse to buy the current version just because of the port 😅
