  • Apple VP talks Apple TV 4K, commitment to future home audio products

He also covered the redesigned Siri Remote. Although some rumors suggested that Apple would add Find My support for the accessory, Twerdahl says that wasn't necessary because of the design changes made to the remote.
"With the changes we've made to the Siri Remote - including making it a bit thicker so it won't fall in your couch cushions as much - that need to have all these other network devices find it seems a bit lower," he said.
The redesigned remote also nixes both the accelerometer and the gyroscope, meaning that it can't be used as a game controller. Twerdahl says that's because Apple believes "a dedicated game controller is the best experience" for users wanting to play a game. Apple initially required all Apple TV games to support the Siri Remote, but that policy has since been changed.
In non marketing crafted language that means: we had a margin target and to achieve it we had to ditch bits. Note there is no Apple game controller to substitute (probably a good thing tbh).
Nonsense. Apple doesn’t need to recreate the game controller any more than it needs to recreate the printer — just buy one of the many options and start playing.

I honestly dont get the fauxrage about not having the remote in Find My — how hard is it to lift up the seat cushions? It’s not like you’re going to be driving across town trying to find your TV remote.
    Do you have young children?

  • Judge in Epic v. Apple trial presses Tim Cook on App Store model, competition

    Judge seems to dislike capitalism
    did you mean ‘anti monopoly’?

Because she seems pro-capitalism to me, considering the fact the feels there needs to be more options when it comes to parties making money. Which sparks competition, more consumer choice, more incentives to innovate…

  • Early benchmarks prove M1 iPad Pros are 50% faster than previous generation

Ok but compared to my existing iPad Pro 10.5

Holy S***. The single core score almost triples, and the multi core is three and two thirds time faster. I am so getting one of these.
But what will that extra power enable you to do what you can’t with your existing Pro? That’s obviously a very personal question, but I’m asking because in my case the same iPad Pro purchase to me was a very disappointing purchase. The operating system doesn’t support advanced productivity workflows like macOS. It’s ipadOS that cripples the M1 (or the A series for that matter)

  • Compared: 2021 iPad Pro vs 2020 iPad Pro and 2018 iPad Pro

I have the 2nd gen iPad Pro and consider it to be a mistake to have invested in it.
I already find the power of this tabled to be impressive, but I feel I’m being severely restricted by the operation system.
I probably buy a cheap iPad in the future in addition to a MacBook Pro.

  • Apple presses ahead with aim to replace paper passports and ID with iPhone

If the passport data is locally stored on the iPhone that is fine, but it should never touch Apple’s servers, or anyone else’s.

Identity theft is my major concern here, as a passport itself is hard to duplicate.

I reckon this would also be much more practical if the iPhone can go in “ultra low power mode” and serve basic functionality such as identification, in that mode.
Not being able to identify with close to 0% battery at the end of the day is not a viable solution.
