  • Apple shuts down Epic Games developer account

    viclauyyc said:

Epic is one of the exceptions - they are incredibly successful - but they are fighting the PRINCIPLE here and that’s not just for themselves. They don’t need Apple’s iOS revenue. They want CHANGE. Their philosophy in revenue sharing with developers for their own tools is much more developer friendly. They are much more values driven here. Apple is in fact the greedy one here. It’s not a coincidence they reaches a 2 trillion market cap here!

There’s several examples of Apple being greedy.
Stop defending Apple like it’s some exception to the rule and that it’s some kind of amazing company that is out there to help developers rich. They don’t care about that. They care about their own valuation.
If Epic has so much principal, why don’t they fight the big 3 consoles companies? Epic is still paying the same 30% in a much more closed wall garden like a little bitch!
Because their iOS revenue is low enough, and there is more of a monopoly on the mobile space. Fighting consoles this way would end Epic as a company - suicide.
Once/if they win this fight, console companies might be next.

  • Mark Zuckerberg claims Apple's App Store charges 'monopoly rents,' stifles innovation

I have a strong dislike for Facebook as many here, but Zuckerberg is right here. 100% right.

Problem is though, he’s a hypocrite. Silicon Valley is known to hate Facebook because they either buy or steal whatever idea a newcomer has, or they’ll push them out with tactics.
They are doing exactly the same what Apple does on the App Store side.

The take away: when corporations become too big, it becomes a huge problem. Whether your name is Cook, Zuck or Bezos.

  • Facebook says Apple blocked in-app message informing users of 30% App Store fee

It’s ridiculous that Apple can decline an app submission based on someone saying where the money goes to.

It is not up to Apple to have an opinion on ‘relevancy’. Facebook, whether we like them or not, wants to tell where the money goes to. Apple just doesn’t feel happy with the average Joe learning about their 30% fee.

    Apple extortion hard at work.

  • Apple threatens to close Epic Games developer account on Aug. 28

Apple’s response is absurd and I hope Epic will win this battle.

Apple has become an arrogant behemoth and their monopolistic behavior needs to be stopped.

  • Epic sues Apple after Fortnite removed from App Store

Hi Apple, thanks for helping us become really popular and rich with your trusted app store and rock-solid worldwide hosting, transaction and distribution platform. Also thanks for building a market for us to sell our wares too, as well as making the hardware, software and APIs for us to utilise as a means to sell stuff to people.
It’s a two-way street. Apple’s store would have sucked without amazing content and amazing developers embracing Apple and continuing to do so.

Apple: “thank you Epic for bringing amazing content and fans to our platform so we became a more popular ecosystem and grow our business. Thank you Epic for writing a world class engine that powers thousands of games and showcases our technology. Thank you!”

Lastly, don’t forget Fortnite didn’t become big because of Apple. Read up on the history of this game.
