  • Apple uses Messages colors to bully Android users, says Google

While it's true that nobody wants to be the green bubble...   There are a couple of points to make (some mentioned in the article).

    1. People seem to forget about the "Blackberry lock-in" with their messaging service prior to iMessage.
"BlackBerry has become teenagers' smartphone of choice"
    https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2010/aug/02/blackberry-iphone-sales-technology
In the end, any such "teen lock-in" is subject to be broken by making a better product.

    2. Google has tried their own proprietary service.  It wasn't better and nobody used it.

    3. Google is only pushing RCS because their own proprietary attempt failed.  Now they are trying to be the "good guys".

    4. As the article mentions, RCS isn't universally supported by carriers at this point.  When it is, I hope Apple does upgrade the default green bubble capabilities to the RCS standard.  Until them, standard SMS/MMS serves the basic purpose it's intended for.  The lowest common denominator will never be the better product or service.

    5.  Android users don't really care much about being the green bubble.  They don't see the green bubble.  Only their iPhone friends see the green bubble.  Do they miss out on some animations and other niceties?  Sure.  Do they know what they're missing?  Probably not in most cases.  Maybe they get some pressure from their iPhone friends, but that's hardly a big deal.

  • Apple loses lead Apple Silicon designer Jeff Wilcox to Intel

Ouch. But congratulations to him in his new and expanded role with Intel.
It's funny when I read comments... not really this one in particular, but the media spins this as if it's a huge loss for Apple, etc.  Not to diminish Mr. Wilcox's contributions, but Apple literally has thousands of chip engineers.  They have over a thousand back when they started making their own chips and that division has only grown in size.  While anyone leaving is a loss for Apple and I'm sure he'll bring back great knowledge to Intel, but in the end, there really isn't anyone that would have a significant impact on Apple's plans.  Maybe if Jonny Sourji left we should pause and take note.  Aside from that, there is no single engineer that leaving would have any real impact on Apple.

  • New & colorful 27-inch iMac starts production, reportedly won't have mini LED

    Really…27”?
I'm fine with that.  I don't need or even want anything bigger.  I'll be happy to replace my existing 27" Intel iMac.

  • iPhone 14 will get 48MP camera sensor, folding lens arriving with iPhone 15

There are pros and cons to this technique, but overall, with the proper computational photography, this can produce better quality images.  For those interested in learning more about how this works, there are plenty of articles that cover it well.  Below is an example.

    https://www.androidauthority.com/what-is-pixel-binning-966179/

The short breakdown of the smartphone camera industry is this.  Companies like Google and Apple excel in computational photography but typically ship with lesser quality hardware.  Many of the Android OEMs aren't great at computational photography, but they are willing to spend more on camera hardware.  In the end, both approaches allow vendors to be competitive with one another.   Pretty much all of the other vendors, including Google with their latest Pixel 6 have moved to cameras with larger pixel binning sensors.  Apple is late to this game and it is essential that they adopt similar techniques in order to remain competitive.

  • Jony Ive confirms LoveFrom works for Apple

I didn't realize Jony was in prison.
It's not... it's "unapologetically" correctional facility chic.

And the Ive here haters thought they were rid of Jony.
Yeah, well that explains the lousy port selection on the iMacs.  But hey, they all look nice and uniform!

Without Steve Jobs, Jonny Ives just a design products disaster.  He did his best work on the Mac Pro trash can and the previous MacBook Pro with the touch bar and removal of inputs to bare minimum!
Yeah, Jony is a talented designed, but he had too much power and needed to be kept in check by someone with common sense that understands people need to use the products and not just look at them.
