  • Qualcomm aims to take on Apple Silicon in nine months

Apple is the kick in the -ss that other companies need to do better…
Yes, the industry appeared to be snoozing.  No more.  The Qualcomm SoC may not perform quite as well as M Series SoCs due to the unique aspects of each particular mobile device it goes into.  But won’t matter.  Qualcomm sales will be strong because the SoC marketplace is everybody versus Apple.  But it’s all good.  With competition everybody wins.

Which leads one to wonder, where does Intel fit in?  Would they dare undermine their historic cash cow of x86 architecture (their last bastion of financial safety) by moving to a RISC architecture?  Or will they double down on x86?  One wonders if it is even possible to create a low power x86 based SoC.  The only thing we can say with any confidence is that the x86 architecture can’t last in its current form.  Intel will have to make a bold move sooner rather than later.

  • The new MacBook Pro: Why did Apple backtrack on everything?

I was shocked to see the new MacBook Pro. It really looks fat. Heavy.
Some of that extra volume is for internal airflow.  The larger the airflow volume the less the fans have to work, saving battery life.

  • Tom Hanks film 'Finch' sets Apple TV+ film premiere record

Each scene was well scripted, directed and acted. Of course it was a one man Hanks show. But geez, pretty thin story arc (robot emerges with human characteristics in post apocalyptic hell) and a downer of an ending without any great emotional payoff.  No great “wow” discovery at the end.  Glad I saw it but will never watch it again.

  • Intel to outpace Moore's Law, surpass rivals in 2025, CEO says

The real question is how do we keep TSMC out of the hands of China? They WILL take back Taiwan, the only question is how and when? Before that happens TSMC needs to move all their fabs to the US or other secure countries. Or at the very least make plans to blow up the ones that remain on Taiwan as soon as the invasion begins.
While the mainland Chinese media talk up a storm about taking back Taiwan, actually attempting it would be a very bad move on their part.  Right now they simply couldn’t do it because they don’t have the naval power.  Of course, that is rapidly changing as they  continue to launch new modern frigates and carriers at record pace.  The US Navy has sharp teeth though.  Any confrontation would be quick and decisive.

Although a direct military conflict is unlikely, it is something for Apple to consider as a worst case scenario.  It would be very bad for business.
