  • Compared: Facebook Libra and Calibra vs Apple Pay

I don't think it can be underestimated that Apple Pay requires a credit of debit card behind it.

As the article points out:  Most of the world has neither.

So, as the world moves more and more to a cashless society, what will these people use?   Not ApplePay!

(That isn't to trash ApplePay.  Rather, to point out that it is based off of a system that excludes the majority of people living today)
I remember hearing a couple of years ago that in Africa a lot of people use their phones. They transfer money back and forth, in their local currency with the help of the cell phone company. In some areas the majority of transactions are done this way, especially away from the big cities. No need for Facebook to get involved, or any sort of cryptocurrency.

  • The worst Apple designs by Jony Ive, according to the AppleInsider staff

I'd say that Apple, and Ive just had a problem with mice. Couldn't design a good one if their life depended on it. Other things, fine, trackpads, fine, keyboards fine. But for some reason mice have just eluded them. From the first one with one button when everyone else had two, and then two with a wheel. Then through the puck mouse, which was an ergonomic disaster, and most disappointing for me, still only had one button. I really thought the two coloured sections on the sides were buttons, until I got one. Then on to the Mighty Mouse which is just mediocre, and as you mentioned a ham sandwich could have told you that putting the plug on the bottom was a bad idea. Not only have I replaced the one that came with my iMac with a wired mouse from MacAlly, I just noticed my wife quietly replaced hers with a Microsoft mouse she got somewhere. Here's to hoping that Apple stops getting arty with their mice and designs one that just does what we need.

  • Samsung exec says Galaxy Fold finally 'ready to hit the market'

So Apple gets a media storm, memes, countless hate videos for less than 1% bent iPhones while Samsung gets away with 100% defected bent phones that break?

    No. In a word.

Samsung didn't ship any and 100% didn't break. Also, if they are near ready to launch it is probably that the fixes were minor. Probably important but minor.

We'll now have to wait for the new official date.

Still a PR disaster but the phone itself might not be as much of a hardware failure as some thought. When it reaches users, we'll know soon enough.
It's a disaster in every way. But I love that you think it's somehow a good thing that they can't make a decent shipping product. I don't know why Samsung would have a Fanboy - but it's nice to meet you.
Considering you've never even used one, your claim is a bold one.

I prefer to let the device stand or fall on its own merits.

    Maybe I'm old fashioned.
I have used one. One of the people I work with was needing to take some video of an experiment, so over a couple of days I have used his fairly new Samsung phone several times. Also previously I've had to make calls with a friends Samsung. Pass. They feel cheep to me. They don't feel like a solid product in my hand. If I had to get an Android phone I'd go with a Pixel or an LG. At least they feel like something worth paying a few hundred for.

  • Case manufacturer Olixar betting on three lenses for most 2019 iPhones

I understood that Apple shared design specs with case manufacturers so the cases would be available on launch day. That would imply these aren’t as speculative as you suggest. OTOH the designs would be shared under strict NDA agreements, which these leaks would violate.

  • Best Alternatives to Adobe Illustrator for iOS and Mac

I've used Graphic since it was iDraw. A very easy to use program. Great for diagrams and quick drawings.

For the last year I've been using Affinity Designer. It is quite powerful and even after a year I've only scratched the surface of what it can do. Be aware, the learning curve is near vertical at first. But don't let that dissuade you, it's a fantastic program with both vector graphic and bitmap tools. You can even mix them in the same drawing.
