  • Tim Cook responds to Facebook's attack ads with tweet about privacy

I love to see tech giants in a battle. Apple is trying to monetize privacy. Facebook is monetizing its users. Apple revenue comes from its customers. Facebook revenue comes from advertisers. You pay for free services with your data. At least now you will have the chance to decide if that is what you really want to do. By now Facebook and Google know a lot about their users. Though that data will get stale over time. I wonder how many Facebook users would actually pay for an ad-free subscription?
    Good points.

The problem is that Apple is interfering with someone else’s business model now. And that’s anti-competitive behavior, even if most of us don’t like Facebook as a company, and like protecting our privacy.

We all know that Tim Cook knows that most people will decline that iOS requester asking for permissions and Facebook ends up with no more user data.

It brings up the question: is Apple allowed to be the data police here? Is Facebook’s way of doing business unacceptable to begin with, and isn’t it then a politics matter?

I think most people perceive social media as a commodity now, almost like an operating system or mini-internet. It’ll be very difficult to ask money for Facebook now.

I would pay for a new type of Facebook built with completely different values, however the problem is that that new platform won’t be able to compete with Facebook on users, and then we’re back to the subject of anti-competitive behavior by another tech giant.
bit in bold - disagree as all that Apple is doing is giving individuals the opportunity to choose. Apple is providing the tools for us to do this, not making the decision for us.

  • Apple execs talk M1, chip specs versus real-world performance in interview

    Brilliant approach.

    But but but.....
    "Apple is lying!"
    -iKnockoff morons

Why do I get the feeling that because Apple is focusing on real-world tasks, iKnockoff morons will now only compare specs. But what's the excuse when BOTH specs and real-world surpass all Windows virus machines and Samsungs knockoff Macbooks?
Agree this is an excellent approach by Apple to explain what the M1 chip means -  that it's FAST. That approach came through in the commercial video they showed at the launch where the talking heads basically went "wow, this is really quick!!!"

It's exciting to see Apple silicon start off at such an impressive point. The roadmap for this is going to be amazing to watch.

  • Epic argues Apple has 'no rights to the fruits' of its labor in 'Fortnite' filing

Holy cow, where to even START with this new line of bullshit!

How did Epic seemingly not know anything about the contract with Apple they signed, including a) what the rules were and b) what the commission fee was? Oh wait, they knew it perfectly well and agreed to it, that's why they signed it.

As a matter of contract law, this case is so open-and-shut it should have taken a short afternoon to decide it (and will, when the actual trial begins). Epic broke its contract, Apple triggered the mechanisms built into said contract for non-compliance.

As for their latest nonsensical argument, I suppose the grocery store should operate for free because they are not entitled to the fruits (literally) of the farmer's labour. Indeed, the entire distribution chain there should be working for free. In other news, the bank that holds your mortgage or your car loan is forbidden from charging interest or fees in the Epic universe because doing so would cause them to (gasp) profit from your purchase of a house! And when you sell your house, certainly the real estate agent who did all the work to close the deal deserves nothing for his efforts, as that would be profiting off "the fruits" of your investment.

WHAT are these guys (and their lawyers) smoking?? And more to the point, aren't these lawyers criminally profiting of the fruits of Epic's labour, or are they peddling this folderol pro bono? Not only should Epic lose this case, they should be fined triple Apple's legal bill as punitive damages for wasting everyone's time. Welcome to capitalism, Epic!
You have to think (given the contract they signed) that Epic are not necessarily hoping to win this case, but to use it to build public pressure on Apple and their App Store policies to get them to change it.

  • Lawsuit alleges Apple blocks cloud gaming apps to stifle Apple Arcade competition

So another in a growing list of legal actions against Apple and its app store practices.

Apple needs to get a case decided in court to determine if these claims have any substance or are just opportunistic claims on its success.

In my opinion it's their devices and their iOS and their store - no  one has been forced to purchase an Apple device (plenty of choices, and heck aren't they meant to be these supper luxury items anyway that are only for all the ohh so elite of elite consumers. And nor have they forced coders to make iOS apps - once again they decided to do that).  Surely Apple have the right to make and manage their devices the way they want to.
