Apple wants to extend AR into the real world with image projectors
mayfly said:Ever since I saw a heads-up display on an F-16, I've been longing for the same feature on my cars. In 2022, we bought our first car with HUD, but it's a long way from being a practical alternative to the dash screen. Our new Volvo has replaced too many of the old-school knobs, buttons and dials that we could operate without taking our eyes off the road, with a hierarchal touchscreen. Now, my eyes have to leave the road to look at the screen and manipulate through menus for any function. Hierarchal is just fine on a phone or computer, but it's dangerously implemented in all the new cars we looked at, sometimes requiring navigation through 2-3 layers, and choosing from multiple options in each. I like to watch where I'm going, and hope the automakers can get more and more functions to a place where I don't have to either risk not seeing emergent dangers, or pulling over and stopping to manipulate the car's settings. Even the radio requires looking at the screen to find a station, or switch between FM and Sirius XM broadcasts. And there are a LOT of XM stations! -
iPhone 14 Pro Max was the best-selling smartphone for first half of 2023
IF this is accurate it's surprising to me that the iPhone 14 Plus has been outsold by the iPhone 11 (non-pro). And it must sting Samsung to see that last year's non-pro iPhone outsold their flagship device by (supposedly) ~25%.
Ultimately I don't trust this report. Last year the iPhone 13, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max collectively sold a reputed ~71.5 million units in the first six months but this year the 14, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max sold ~54 million? Not believable, even in a shrinking market. -

Businesses increasing Apple hardware buys because of longevity & reliability
AppleInsider said:Apple's ecosystem viewed very positively by those who have to manage enterprise networks.
That said, it's heartening to see larger enterprises recognising (finally!) the benefits of Apple devices throughout the workplace rather than being limited to specific departments like marketing or graphic design. Maybe IBM's touting of their results started a few people thinking. -
