    I used to think that way until I realized that all my virtue wasn't having any affect on these lawsuits.  The lawyers still got gobs of money, and the other people still got money, so I decided to start sending those cards in.  Getting checks for $50, $75, $12.18 (really, I don't even know what that one was for...  sugar in my sugar free Jell-O packets? maybe?), and the best one was for $258.

    I do gladly support tort reform, as those checks are more of a "found $5 in my pants pocket" than "I hope that check gets here so I can buy groceries" money.

  • Apple still depends on traditional American engineers, and is slowly losing them

    I work for an engineering company, and they must get the cream of the crop of interns.  The "Millenials" we get are inquisitive, self-starters, and I've helped a few file to get patents on the work they do here.  They don't "go and get coffee" for the senior engineers, but they are given a project to accomplish, leveraging the knowledge of the senior engineers, and have to present their findings to the leadership (VP level). Their biggest complaint was that they wanted to work more time than was budgeted for them, as feature creep was happening on their projects, or they said in a meeting, "Oh, I know how to fix that," and they'd get another project to contribute to.

    In fact, last year we had a high school intern whose work was so good, he was offered a scholarship to go into engineering by our company.  I spent 3 hours with him, and while touring the factory and watching the manufacturing process, he was asking intelligent, germane questions, and I could tell he was absorbing the information.

    I have high hopes after seeing these All-American kids... errr... young engineers.

    Hopefully they'll make it smaller than micro-usb, and able to insert it one way.  With USB-C, I miss the frustration of getting it wrong 95% of the time on the first attempt.

    I left AT&T because each time I called for support, I was barraged by at least 4 propositions* for "increasing my satisfaction with ..." something that would take more money from my wallel.

    *Not only the on hold suggestions, but the "hello, I'm Joe, I see you're having issues with getting phone calls at home.  Is this true?  Would you like to have HBO Go added to your account?"
    "Yeah.  I'm having problems with having phone calls at home."
    "So you'd like to have HBO Go added?"
    "No"
    "No, you're not having problems with phone calls at home?"
    "Yes, I am having problems with phone calls at home."
    "OK, I'll add HBO Go to your account, and transfer you to someone who can help!"
    sounds of phone call being transferred and then disconnection.

    Call back.
    After listening to the phone menu that I must listen to, because "it has changed since the last call"
    "Hello, this is Betty, I see that you don't want HBO Go, is this true?  Also Do you want to add Showtime to your account?" 
    ugh...
