Editorial: Can Apple News+ kill 'fake news' and save journalism?
Kentfromohio said:clemynx said:apple ][ said:corrections said:Now it’s a religio-fascist republic where votes don’t matter and white supremacists are indoctrinated by state TV to unthinkingly march to nationalist socialism—with a planned economy laid out by a flamboyant figurehead who seized power and wants to scuttle all checks and balances of the legislative branch and fill the courts with one political party while refuting science because he has a “good brain.”
Trump won fair and square, he didn't seize power, what a ridiculous thing to claim. It's the sorelosers who still can't accept reality and get over their loss. Any talk of Russia is complete nonsense and a few facebook ads bought for tiny sums amounting to thousands of dollars is complete peanuts and had zero effect on any election.
The sorelosers spent billions and still lost. And the main interference in the election has been from the sorelosers with their hoaxes and fake dossiers perpetrated by the side that lost. They cheated and they still lost. The stupid is really strong with that side.
And the economy is doing great, with less regulations and less hindrances for businesses. It's the other party that wants more regulation, higher taxes and state control over everything, including the private sector.
And claiming that there is no bias against conservatives on either Facebook or Twitter is also complete nonsense, as there are examples almost daily of discrimination, and nobody buys their excuses that a "mistake" was made anymore, because those "mistakes" always seem to only target one side. Hate speech to a leftist is basically anything that they disagree with, including the term "learn to code", meanwhile they are free to make actual death threats on twitter and nothing seems to ever happen to them. I guess that death threats and threats of actual violence are ok, as long as it's coming from a liberal.
The liberal fake news dominance and their censorship fetish is getting less effective for each day that passes, and that's a wonderful thing. I'd like to see some of them go out of business soon, that would be fantastic.
Oh please, stop sucking Trump's cock, you old obese fart.
I marked it as "informative" as what comes out of peoples' mouth (or keyboard) says more about them than it does about me. -

Only journalists can save journalism.
When one turns on the 5 major news outlets (CBS/NBC/ABC/CNN/Fox) and sees the hard news (not the opinion people like Scarborough/Hannity, etc) people saying the exact same phrases (it's been going on for a long time...the word "gravitas" was foisted upon us in 1988 by the big 4 (first 4 from the previous list) repeating it over and over... and it was said in one of the major party's talking points) over and over, and presenting one side of the story without presenting a valid point from the other side. Other "sins" are:
- Presenting something inherently incorrect and when the incorrect information is revealed (let's say 10 seconds later on the same video that was replayed ad nauseum) that the exact opposite situation happened. When it is revealed that the contradicting information is revealed, the story is quickly dropped with exactly one apology.
- Taking the worst of one side and presenting it as the standard of that side.
- Minimizing the amount of peaceful demonstrators, and concentrating on those that were not peaceful.
- Minimizing those that incite violence in a crowd, and blaming those on another side as the instigators.
- Not questioning why authorities made calls to have police forces stand down when two sides (one side disarmed when they had to attend an event, the violent side waiting for them when they exited an arena, forced to walk through that agitated crowd) are forced.
- Asking one side (relatively) softball questions and the other side ad hominem questions, or better yet, making journalists submit their questions and then selecting journalists that ask questions that the elected official wants to answer.
- Selective editing to make one side look bad (i.e. having 2 hours of interview material and using the worst 4 minutes), and the other look good.
- Asking relatives of an elected official to comment on personal conversations between them and the elected official.
This isn't new in America. Having government or another entity (editors) filter the news for me is where my red flag goes up. Biases will be invoked, and here's the thing... Journalists, if you report all the facts and some disagree with your biases, then you're a real journalist. If all of the facts agree with your biases, check your sources.

BMW owners unable to access CarPlay due to apparent subscription service outage

BMW is one of only a handful of carmakers that charge for CarPlay access.
This is a greed play. Pure and simple.
Essentially, you are renting your BMV for life.
Avoid BMW.
Therefore, many developed their own navi- and infotainment systems and integrated it with the car to a level that Apple/Android can’t match.
The reason is their intrinsic fear for Apple as it tries to become a force in the automobile world - thereby enforcing their UX onto cars - reducing the role of the carmaker to a casing manufacturer.
I am not saying what’s right or wrong, but I can understand their reluctancy. And when greed comes into place, we should respect the real champ...
It is obvious that Toyota put a LOT of time, resources and effort into developing their inhouse system.
It is equally obvious that their inhouse system is crap.
It looks like Toyota is following Honda in their crappy infotainment systems.

BMW owners unable to access CarPlay due to apparent subscription service outage
tjwolf said:It was already ridiculous enough that BMW charged some $300 for CarPlay when some $20k cars throw in CarPlay for free. Their subscription service is yet more money grabbing. Ridiculous.
Oh, did I mention that you can’t even get CarPlay unless you also buy their $2k navigation package?!
I have a 2006 BMW 330i and pretty soon need a new car. It ain’t gonna be a BMW for sure. Next one will be an Audi (etron sportback) or Tesla Model Y.
I put a CarPlay stereo (Sony XAV-1000) in my 2006 325i, and lost the navigation but got it back with CarPlay. Love the car, but hate that I have what looks like my 1976 Datsun Pick-up look for a car stereo in there.I'm normally very Pro-BMW, but nickel and diming people for what is standard in every other car makes them look like Spirit Airways, and cheapens the brand:
"Want a pillow, that'll be $5,00"
"Oh, sir, you have a carry on bag. That'll be $7.50, and if you'd like a bag of peanuts, that'll be a dollar. If you bring your own snacks, there is a $4.00 fee for each item."
"Is that for each peanut, or the bag of them?" -
Google Assistant response speed getting improved by on-device processing
Duh...Microsoft figured this out in 2005 with Voice Command, which existed on the Windows Phones.Streaming requests that can be handled locally (i.e. "Call Julie on Mobile", or "what appointments do I have today?") over the Internet is just dumb, inefficient, and exposes privacy concerns. Items such as "Who put the bop in the bop-she-bop-she-bop" or "What movies are playing on El Cajon Blvd theaters tonight?" are those that parsed on the device, then a web query can be used to search the Internet.A central place for all of my, and everyone else's queries are the ingredients for 1984.
