  • Trump trumpets trade deal with China that's still terrible for Apple

    zone said:
Yes, it's a big worry, but give Tim a break. Trump is a moron and impossible to deal with... as far as the AI is concerned, Apple's OS's are complex and full of security. They are doing this the right way, slowly and correctly. However, Wall Street and investors hate this. They want it now!
Slowly and carefully might be the way to avoid the pit falls of rapid AI development. The latest news seems to be all about the father of AI and many of his cohorts sounding alarms saying AI is uncontrollability and detrimental to the human race. I was inferred in an interview I watched, that AI is being developed by super computers and not by programmers writing code. Therefore no one knows how it works.

It would be interesting to know whether Apple’s approach to developing AI is as chaotic and uncontrolled as the other players are accused of being. Apparently there’s a large consortium of major players who are attempting to raise public consciousness of the dangers.

  • Apple is planning to make enormous design changes to iOS 19 & macOS 16

Can Apple PLEASE make UI elements fully SCALABLE for high resolution monitors!
    PLEASE!

    I recently upgraded to a 27” 4K monitor and it’s a nightmare.

Dialogue Boxes are postage stamp sized.
Menu Bar Items and text are all tiny.
Text on various application palettes are barely readable.

I’ve had to increase text and icon size in the Finder, but the Menu Bar and menus are tiny!
Finder prefs only work for ONE window. Size changes need to be applied to EVERY window I open.

If I go MacBook Pro without the external monitor, Finder elements are too big.

Apple has been promising scalable UI forever. Will they ever deliver?
I feel your pain. My daughter purchased a m2 Mac Mini when it first came out out. She used it with a second hand Display until it failed. Money was tight so she went with a Samsung smart display. She ended up taking the Mini to the store and asking their tech manager to fix the display or replace it with something else. It took the manager nearly two hours of fiddling around with display settings to eventually get it setup correctly. When you connect to an Apple monitor it just automatically sets itself up but another brand needs manual settings to make it work and they are in many different places. It can be accomplished through so keep trying.

  • UK secretly orders Apple to let it spy on iPhone users worldwide

The UK governments request for backdoor access to encrypted data is not necessarily about creating a surveillance state but rather about ensuring law enforcement can access critical information in serious cases, such as terrorism, child exploitation, and organised crime. With encryption making it harder to investigate criminal activity, a controlled backdoor could allow authorities to act swiftly in emergencies, preventing attacks or saving lives. Other intelligence agencies already conduct mass surveillance, so formalising a legal mechanism for targeted access could add accountability.

This could be considered flawed logic when we understand that the UK city of London has probably the highest level of  surveillance in the form of Government controlled security cameras than any other city in the world. By this logic it should have the lowest level of crime. It clearly does not. These policies, floated on the back of the fare of public harm to the individual, are almost always just another way of the few imposing a policy of control over the masses. Just because it sounds like it will keep people safe doesn’t mean it will not that it is necessary.

Your own great president stated, in effect that it is better for the few to get away with a crime than it is for the citizens to be fearful of their own government and lose freedom.

We all need to remember that and be very afraid when governments forget. Particularly, when groups are actively pushing for a one world government I.e. the WEF.  Read their own words from their publications.

  • iOS 18 Repair Assistant forces parts pairing for users

This is great news for people who purchase second hand phones. It will ensure that replacement parts are properly installed and that you know what you’re purchased.
