You need a $20 adapter upgrade to fast-charge Apple's base model 14-inch MacBook Pro
Could be environmental reasons. Smaller power supply will draw less power in standby than a larger power supply. Fast charging isn’t that great on battery life. Less problems down the road, by not having everything fast charging. How many people really need fast charging? You have a long battery life as is and people having their laptop plugged in all the time don’t need fast charging. A new feature is suddenly mandatory for everyone to have or Apple is greedy? How many other laptops have fast charging? -
MacBook Pro refresh could reuse the iPhone's notch in the display
Who cares? It isn't like video is going to be shown with a notch in it. All you're going to have is those top icons for WIFI, bluetooth, menus, etc. Looking at my top bar, there is a big gap with plenty of room for the notch. This will add a little more screen space, people will complain, and people actually using the computers will end up ignoring the notch is actually there. Doom will be predicted and Apple will sell millions of computers. -
Fast charging the Apple Watch Series 7 requires 5W USB-C PD adapter or better
Overall I’m good with the old usb-a charger and 5W power. I can think of three reasons why fast charging would be good. The cat knocked the watch off the charger, so it didn’t get charged overnight, charge before going to sleep so you can wear it overnight, and a quick charge to get it above 50% so the update will install. -
Researchers demonstrate new methods of bypassing macOS security
Andy Grant (@andywgrant) presented a vulnerability in which a remote attacker with root permissions can grant a malicious process whatever TCC permissions is desired. This process involving creating a new user on the system, then using that user to grant the permissions.I can see the problems with the other stuff. This one through….. if the remote attacker already has root permissions, isn’t that the main problem? Originally, root had permission to do anything. It is only with later versions that Apple removed all access for root accounts and yet people complained. By pushing Apple to remove more ability from root, some things will not work. -
This is the Apple Watch you should buy in 2021
I can see not buying the 3 as updating the 3 was a pain. Our 3 is broken so can’t test new updates. Hopefully Apple has made it easier to update. Nike version? For a few faces and the bands? No thank you.Buying used? Great if you really need to save money. Problems with buying used, is how much battery life is left, scratches, lack of any warranty, and not getting the latest improvements. I have the 4, which lacks the o2 sensor, so definitely not recommending that model. How much abuse did the used watch get, will it withstand the water? New, you get a band, used, you probably don’t get or want the band. It is next to a person’s body after all.
