  • Apple takes Prepear logo trademark fight to Canada

Trademark law has never made much sense, and internationally, things can get very sticky. Netflix is being sued by the US government over the name “Space Force.”

Some big companies have lost their trademarks due to what may have seemed silly things, especially in Europe. I’m sure Apple’s lawyers told them, to be safe, the company should take all available action.

Trademark law requires you actively pursue any possible infringement or lose that right in a future infringement case if you've "demonstrated indifference" in the past. They're not being a bully.
This is the real story, Trademark law is notoriously strange and causes behaviour like this quite regularly. (Disney is often mentioned in stories like this)
The problem is there is too much money at stake in Trademark and Patent law to achieve any kind of reasonable reform in Congress, not to mention attempts to make international law in this area.

Samsung has actually picked a smart strategy here. They limit reliance on partners like Goldman Sachs, and not being a credit card means there are more potential users in future.
Fascinating that you view Apple's partnership with the premier investment bank in the world as some sort of weakness.

Goldman Sachs became big and powerful because it is good at making money, for itself. That’s money not going to Apple.
Also, the strategic reason GS wants to enter the consumer market and get some of Apple’s brand cachet is that they understand that People are beginning to remember that they have been involved in a bunch of really shady stuff. These giant investment banks and private equity firms control far too much of our economic/political system.
