  • OWC's Thunderbolt Go Dock has built-in power supply & 11 ports

For a moment I thought this had a built-in big-ass-battery. “Great idea - long overdue.” I thought. But still, nice to see the PS integrated.

  • AMD trying to take on Apple Silicon with Ryzen 7040

I’m thinking that Apple might just jump over M2 Pro/Max and go right for M3 w/ 3nm process. There’s been enough rumors that M2 didn’t cut it for the Mac Pro, so maybe they’ll release M3 Pro/Max/Ultra/Extreme this year instead. That’ll be a big leap over the M1 initial releases dropping AMD and Intel back to the drawing boards.

    Right on, competition is good.

  • Brydge ProDock review: A vertical Thunderbolt 4 docking station for modern Macs

I’d say 3 out of 5: it’s lack of 10GBe is sinful. That’s not “pro” without it - especially at its price. I was a big fan and proponent of their original Docks: they were simple and tapped the multiple ThunderBolt USB-C ports and made them easily usable for any accessory we needed. Now we’re forced to buy all these other ports with limited throughput. Yes it’s sexy, but it’s just to overdone for my needs. I wish they’d still offered the previous design for the new MBP M1 designs. 😔

  • Pro Display XDR update with Apple Silicon one of many in-development monitors

The Studio Display was a disappointment - to me, not because of the webcam and such, but because it wasn’t a “Liquid Retina…” micro-LED screen. Even at its 5K it would have beaten the XDR Pro Display with its finer luminance resolution. To me $1500 was a travesty to charge that much for a display based on the 5 year old iMac Pro/regular AIO systems screens.

The next XDR Pro needs to be at least 8K to support the next generation of cinema production, so $5K for that would be logical. Then offer a 30” Liquid Retina with micro-LED for the “lesser” professionals. I’d personally love to see a 6K2.5K widescreen mini-LED display (similar to LG’s 5K2K display I own) for AE/PremierePro video/cinema production.

  • New 15.5-inch MacBook Air rumored to arrive in early 2023

I know so many writers who’d jump on this. The MBP is too much (power & price) for most users, so an Air Max would be just the device.
